World Championship Muay Thai San Manuel Brings Full-Rules Muay Thai to the I. E. for the First Time Evening Includes IKKC World Lightweight Championship Bout and Unique Wai Khru Ritual November 9, 2006 San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino 777 San Manuel Blvd. Highland, California
San Manuel Indian Nation, Calif. – On Thursday, November 9, San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino brings full-rules Muay Thai martial arts to the Inland Empire for the first time ever. Tickets are available now at the San Manuel Box Office or at Ticketmaster.com for $45, $65, and $100. The fights begin at 7:30 p.m.
Known for its action-charged Fury in the Ring boxing matches and popular Mixed Martial Arts programs, San Manuel now goes a step further in hosting a night of Muay Thai combat. The event is presented in conjunction with World Championship Muay Thai Promoter Dennis Warner and In Sync Productions, Inc. Headlining the 10-bout card is an IKKC World Lightweight Championship match pitting Kaensak Soh against Mohamed Etajiri.
Meaning literally Thai Boxing, Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand. The fights feature punches, kicks, elbows, knees, standing grappling, and head-butts to wear down and/or knock out one's opponent. Training methods develop devastating power, speed, and superb cardiovascular endurance.
Included in the evening's activities is one of its more unique aspects: a pre-fight ritual called the Wai-Khru, which means respecting the teacher. It is a dance meant to pay respect to the fighter's instructor. It is also a way for a combatant to stretch and warm up as well as to relax and prepare his or her body and mind for the upcoming bout.
