Castillejo vs. Mayorga sign up for Don King
Randy Suico challenges Marco Antonio Barrera What could turn into a great and exciting match between two great super feathers is on the works. After successfully defending his crown against Thai Muang Fahlec Kiatwichin whom he defeated by KO5 before a multitude, Philippine Randy Suico, OPBF champion, publicly challenged Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera for the world super feather belt of the WBC, organization he vowed his loyalty to.
In regards to Barrera, he considered him a boxing legend and at the same time, Suico requested not to place the winner of “Matador” Chavez and “Famoso” Carlos Hernandez above him in the ratings. Suico, nicknamed in his country as “Kamong Bato” which means “Stone Hands” with a record of 23 wins, 20 by KO
and one split decision, is
insisting on this challenge “if he [Barrera] really wants to fight the best”,
stating that he is the boxer with the highest merits at the moment. World superwelter champion Francisco Javier Castillejo is sending his representative Ricardo Sanchez Atocha to Mexico to hold an interview on May 5 with famous USA promoter Don King, for the corresponding contract for Castillejo’s mandatory defense against official challenger Ricardo Mayorga.
This fight is scheduled to take place on July 23 at the Madison Square Garden of New York.
As everybody knows, Castillejo has been the undisputed super welter champion since Winky Wright relinquished his title to fight Felix Trinidad in the super middle division.
Castillejo has a great record of 58 wins and only 5 losses, one of them when he lost the super welter belt to Oscar de la Hoya in a formidable fight.
Mayorga’s record is 27 wins, 23 by KO and 5 defeats. He conquered the title with a victory over Vernon Forrest.
The mandatory defense of the WBC super welter title bears a very special meaning since both Oscar de la Hoya and Fernando Vargas want to fight for this popular world title.
