WBC NEWS Maskaev And Peter Are Ready For February 2nd
division, Samuel Peter from Nigeria, sent the World Boxing Council their medical exams, confirming that they are fit to fight for the undisputed title of our organization on February 2nd, in New York.
The winner will be declared as the only champion of the WBC heavyweight division, and his next defense will be against the former world champion and current WBC Emeritus champion, Vitali Klitschko, who also sent to our offices his medical exams, where he is declared to be fit to fight for the crown.
The champion, Oleg Maskaev, from Kazakhstan, won the world championship when he defeated Hasim Rahman from the U.S.A. by knockout in 12 rounds, and he defended his title voluntarily against Peter Okhello in Moscow, Russia, in December 2006. His record is: 34 wins, 26 of which were by knockout, he has 5 losses, but has not lost for four years.
On the other hand, Samuel Peter won two eliminatory fights against James Toney, having been elected interim world champion after Oleg Maskaev was injured. His record is: 29 wins (22 knockouts) and 1 loss. The mandatory challenger, Vitali Klitschko vacated the world title after suffering an injury, having a record of: 35 wins, 34 of them by knockout, and only two losses. Klitschko holds one of the highest records in the history Heavyweight boxers, and in the history of boxing in general, with a percentage of 97.1 fights won by KO throughout his professional career.
