WBC NEWS

Waiting for a response from

Fernando Vargas and Francisco Javier Castillejo

President of the WBC, Dr. Jose Sulaiman Chagnon, sent to boxers Fernando Vargas, from the United

States and Francisco Javier Castillejo, from Spain, the following communication:

“We would like to ratify that the Board of Governors of the WBC has approved your fight to be held on August

20, 2005 as a final elimination bout, with the winner fighting for the WBC’s superwelterweight championship

of the world.”

Ricardo Mayorga and Michele Piccirillo have been ordered by the WBC’s Board of Governors that the

winner and new WBC superwelterweight champion of the world must fight mandatorily, without an intervening

optional defense, against the winner of Fernando Vargas and Francisco Javier Castillejo.

Fernando Vargas and Francisco Javier Castillejo must inform the WBC before their fight on August 20, if they

accept and will be fighting for this final WBC elimination bout.

“If they do not let the WBC know of their acceptance, we will understand that they have not accepted and

that they will not fight to become the official challenger of the WBC."

Therefore, the WBC’s Board of Governors had ruled for Oscar de la Hoya to be declared the official

challenger to fight for the WBC title against the winner of Mayorga and Piccirillo.

The WBC convention in Spain will rule for the next challenger between any of the following fighters: Vernon

Forrest, from the USA, Sergei Dzindziruk, from Ukraine and/or Alex Bunema, from Congo.
