W1: Trials And MMA Camp

June 6, & 7, 2009

International Centre

Mississauga, Ontario (Canada)

Warrior One MMA is proud to announce that the inaugural “W1: Trials & MMA Campwill occur on June 6th

and June 7th at the Mixed Martial Arts Expo in Toronto.  The Mixed Martial Arts Expo is located at:

Toronto International Centre, 6900 Airport Road, Hall 5, Mississauga, L4V 1E8.

The "W1: Trials & MMA Camp" will consist of a two day training camp for all fighters interested in stepping

up and becoming W1 fighters and/or for athletes who are looking for an intensive training regimen with some

of the world's best trainers. (It is not required that you apply to be a potential W1 fighter to participate in the

training session and it is perfectly acceptable if you decide to simply train with some of MMA's greatest

instructors. As a bonus, some trainers will be available for private sessions on Saturday and Sunday.)

On Saturday June 6th, all participants will be split into groups according to their respective weights and

experience. Each group will spend the entire day training with various world class trainers. W1 is proud to

announce that former UFC Champion Carlos “The Ronin” Newton, UFC Heavyweight Contender Cheick

Kongo and Ultimate Fighter star and UFC Contender Matt “The Hammer” Hamil have been confirmed as

the trainers for the “W1 Trials & MMA Camp”. At least one other top level trainer will be announced shortly.

Saturday's sessions will also involve a "Becoming a Professional MMA Fighter" panel discussion led by

Showdown Joe Ferraro, the host of MMA Connected on Sportnet. Showdown Joe and the rest of the

panel (including some top MMA competitors and trainers) will discuss the sacrifices that must be made if

you are truly interested in a successful MMA career. The panel will also discuss proper training methods,

diet and all other aspects involved with MMA.

Sunday's sessions will be an official audition for each participant who is interested in becoming a W1

competitor. This will involve some light sparring, ground work and interviews. MMA as a competitive sport is

still illegal in Ontario therefore sparring is limited to the same intensity as you would find in the typical

martial arts training facility. Individuals who push the guidelines will be released from the program.

Fighters who impress during the "W1: Trials & MMA Camp" could potentially be offered multi-fight

contracts by Warrior One MMA with at least two participants being offered the chance to fight in an

upcoming W1 MMA event.

During the entire training camp, participants will be evaluated by their respective trainers as well as a team

of evaluators including the W1 Matchmaker Alex Caporicci, “Showdown” Joe Ferraro, the host of

MMA Connected on Sportnet and some soon to be announced special guests. Also present will be some of

the largest companies involved with MMA who may look at the competitors as potential sponsored athletes.
