Greetings friends, fellow

For updates, you can also check our page at Myspace.com, http://www.myspace.com/ussombo. The Pan American Sombo Championships will be held May 31st through June 1st in Rio de Janero, Brazil. Also, the Battle of Brooklyn will take place on May 6th. The May 6th card will feature Muay Thai vs. San Da and BJJ vs. Sambo. More information is listed below in the news section. In this months issue, I demonstrate a combination submission that combines an ankle, knee, and hiplock. Yours in Sombo, Lance Campbell Vice President, United States Sombo Association

Ankle-Knee-Hiplock Combo This technique is illegal in sport sombo because it is a twisting lock, but could still be legal for many other types of grappling, as well as MMA. I start the technique standing over my opponent in a similar position to what I would be in if I was preparing to drop back for an ankle lock.
Instead of dropping back for the ankle lock, I step through my opponent's legs and spin around 180 degrees and I sit on my opponent.
It is important that I keep everything tight. I want to place the hardest part of my forearm on my opponent's Achilles tendon. From here I can pull my elbow towards my side, and twist my body towards my opponents foot. This will place some pressure on my opponents hips and knees, while also applying pressure to my opponent's ankle.
I can go for the finish from this position, or I can use my foot to pick my opponent's other foot, which will allow me to go for a hiplock finish.
To go for the hiplock finish, I will scoop the far foot and pull it up tight. This will place pressure on my opponent's hips. If properly executed, this is a very painful finish

Battle of Brooklyn: Clash Of The Clans: Sambo Update I am glad to tell you that Budo Videos will be sponsoring this show and the subsequent dvd! What's really great is that they will also be running a VIP ticket give-away contest! Please keep checking www.budovideos.com for more information.
As usual we will have Grappling Magazine, Free Fighting Illustrated, and other press on hand. Of course we will have a great after party at Superfine well stocked by sponsor Tiger Beer. Thanks to USKBA for sanctioning this event. So come down to world famous Gleason's Gym for a great time on May 6th!
This show is very important for building bridges in the grappling community and why I chose three respected and honorable gentlemen as team captains. I know these men have very much respect for each other and won't make this an "us vs. them" event but, rather, a event in the spirit of brotherhood.
Sambo Team Co-Captains are:
Vladislav Koulikov and Oleg Savitsky
I have worked with all these guys in the past and really believe they are the best choices - not only because they are local talent and well respected, they are stand-up guys (and ground...LOL)!
Anyone interested in the team (Particularly 55KG and 60KG) Must Fill Out The Fighter Application at www.battleofbrooklyn.com. No application, no consideration for the team. Your application will be forwarded to the appropriate captains. While I do have final say regarding the teams, unless there is a conflict, I am allowing the captains control over the team selection process.
Each team will consist of a player in each of the following weights under freestyle sambo rules: - 55kg (-121lbs) - 60kg (-132lbs) - 66kg (-145.2lbs) - 74kg (-162.8lbs) - 84kg (-184.8lbs) - 96kg (-211.2lbs) - +96kg (+211.2lbs)
