MICHAEL WESTBROOK
The Too Famous Interview

How The Westbrook Won

March 1, 2005 *** Too Famous Headline News ***

In a unanimous decision for the main event, a packed stadium of fans at Cleveland’s CSU Convocation

Center were the first to view what is being hailed as "the premiere match-up of the century for ‘CrossOver’

sports." A mixture of Mixed Martial Arts enthusiasts and Football fans were on-hand last Friday, February

25th to witness PAYBACK: King of the Cage Action featuring an all-star fight card and the introduction of

NFL Superstars (former Washington Redskins) Michael Westbrook and (New York Giants) Jarrod Bunch.

Misty-eyed fans who were unable to attend the event will be able to catch all the action on Pay-Per-View

(check your local listings) and on replays throughout the month. After appearing on many shows and

interviews (see www.CageKing.com) Michael has shared with us his thoughts, post-fight.

TF: What in your mind defines a true athlete?

MW: "Someone who takes the skills that they’ve learned and combines them with the brains and the heart

of a champion. To me that makes a ‘true’ athlete. Anything else is just a person with skills."

TF: How long have you been in the martial arts?

MW: "About ten years with the focus being on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu."

TF: We’ve heard that you’ve been trained by Emmanuel Steward, how do you feel about him as a trainer?

MW: "I didn’t get a whole lot of time with him…Of course he’s a Legend. Anything to do with him comes out

perfection! If I would do this again he would definitely be someone who would coach me in Boxing. "

TF: Do you feel that your mix of "CrossOver" training techniques helped you in your victory over Jarrod

Bunch?

MW: "Definitely. I knew. I have skills from a lot of different disciplines, and in my mind I’m a true athlete. I

think that helped me a LOT. Being able to pool from all of those disciplines, plus all of the training I’ve had

access to really gave me a lot to work with."

TF: Do you think other sports will see the benefits of such "crossover training?"

MW: "Anything that you do ‘over’ athletically, and involving cross training, especially with Martial Arts, will

benefit. You need that discipline and everything to that effect helps. "

TF: You also have a clothing line, management company AND record company, Tell us about that…

MW: "Yes, the clothing line is developing (Cage Clothes) and West and Beyond is turning into the

management company…I have a production company (Myky Productions), a management team (Myka) and

a publishing company (Silent Night publishing.) It all falls under the umbrella of the record label for now, (In R

Circle Entertainment) we’re still putting it all together. There’s some really hot, ‘fresh’ talent coming out of

Detroit now…We’re trying to bring back the old Motown. We’re trying to start it all up again, calling it "New

Motown"."

TF: The Mock TV ad for the fight had "the Rock" in it (http://www.toofamous.com/stunts.htm)…I understand

you fought him before. What was that about?

MW: "Laughs. That was two young cats on the college football field. We were on two teams, it wasn’t a

huge deal. It was just two guys out there on the field. I’ll tell you this though, he was cut out to do what he

was doing."

TF: Where do you see the world of professional competitive Martial Arts going?

MW: "I don’t know. I would have to guess it could only get more popular, especially with guys like me

crossing over and truly respecting the discipline. It’s not a joke. If people take two seconds of their time to

find out what it is they’ll see how significant it is in the World of Sports."

TF: Any plans to see Stephen Davis in a cage, and what was that all about anyway?

MW: "If we had hidden cameras in every training camp, nobody would remember Michael Westbrook Vs

Stephen Davis. It was just two young guys, one was talking trash, the other wasn’t, one guy kept talking

trash …boom, history…that’s the short version."

TF: The fans are hungry for the next heavyweight boxer, Is that you?

MW: "No, definitely not me, I respect all the boxers. I’m a boxing fan really more than I am a football fan, but

Boxing is just not something that I can see myself doing…Waiting to exchange punches, not being able to

grab my opponent. To me its just not a fair fight. One day, someone will come along with longer arms faster

jabs, so, there…"

TF: Who in your mind would be a worthy opponent, should people start the fantasy fight in their minds?

MW: "I’d fight any heavyweight. I wouldn’t want to fight Lennox Lewis, no, I take that back, I think people

would want to see me fight Lennox Lewis. I’d fight anybody. I’m not that skilled of a boxer. I think people

would want to see a pure athlete fighting Boxing."

TF: On a final note, what do you think about the fact that at this years Superbowl, they said Michael

Westbrook (many, many times) when actually referring to ‘Brian Westbrook’.

MW: "I heard about that, I didn’t see it though. For the most part I was in peoples mouths a lot, so that

doesn’t surprise me. It s easy to confuse the ‘new’ Westbrook with the ‘old’ Westbrook. My name got

around a lot. Still does (laughs.)"

TF:What’s next for Michael Westbrook?

MW: "Some Jiu Jitsu tournaments, the Record labels stuff, the clothing line, trying to get my book a little

deeper…We’ll see what happens."
