Sportfight XXI Recap "Seasons Beatings" Live on HDNet Fights
December 22, 2007 Rose Garden Arena Portland, Oregon
Matt "The Law" Lindland and the SportFight crew produced a great night of fights on Saturday December 22, 2007 at the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Oregon. After reaching a major milestone last October with their 20th production of SportFight, "The Law" now has some new partners that pack a big punch. HDNet Fights is now joining the SportFight team and broadcasting the fights LIVE on HDNet. Next year's schedule is set for five shows to be aired in high definition television and on the Internet at www.hdnetfight.com.
SportFight 21 definitely began a new era for the Northwest's best MMA show that was founded by Matt Lindland and Randy Couture. What began as a small event at the National Guard Armory has now evolved to a LIVE National Television Broadcast. Matt Lindland was quoted as being very exciting to work with Guy Mezger and the HDNet television network.
The night started with some great amateur fights that got the crowd excited to see the pros bang it out. Aaron Stark, former IFL Wolfpack team member, was a definite crowd pleaser and the Portland fans expressed their support for him after he secured a guillotine choke over Dallas Browning in 47 seconds of Round 1. Lodune Sincaid, previous Ultimate Fighter Contestant, survived a slugfest with Corey Devala that left his face a bloody mess. Both fighters fought hard, however the judges awarded Devala with the decision.
UFC Fighter Jeff "The Snowman" Monson was the previous SportFight Heavy Weight Champion until he retired his belt to move on to the UFC. Jeremiah Constant and Josh Queen were matched up to compete for the Heavy Weight Champion Belt. Queen seemed to withstand Constant's aggressiveness and after a few devastating strikes Queen secured the Rear Naked Choke to receive the Tapout with only 4 seconds left in Round 1.
The Main Event went to the decision with Mike Pierce defeating SportFight Welter Weight Champion Ed Nuno. Pierce continued to takedown Nuno and control the fight on the ground, which eliminated Nuno's incredible striking ability and got Pierec the unanimous decision.
Pierce and Queen are the new SportFight Champions and HDNet Fights is now part of the SportFight Family. 2008 promises to be a monumental year for Matt Lindland's SportFight.
