"Renegade"

November 10, 2007
American Bank Center
Corpus Christi, Texas
Earlier today during a
teleconference, EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw announced
the formation of
new weight classes for EliteXC.
The new weight classes are as follows:
- 140 lb. division
- 150 lb. division
- 160 lb. division
- 170 lb. division
- 185 lb. division
- 205 lb. division
- 265 lb. division
- 265 + lb. division
The catalyst for the new
weight classes as stated by Mr. Shaw are "health and safety" - he is
very
concerned about fighters
cutting weight (especially large amounts of weight) the week of, or the
day of, a
fight. Ultimately, the hope is
that the new weight divisions will give fighters the opportunity to fight
at a more
natural weight.
Mr. Shaw also didn't rule out
the possibility that a Grand Prix style tournament might be utilized to
crown
champions in the new weight
divisions.
Also, during the
teleconference, it was announced that internet sensation Kimbo Slice
opponent Mike
Bourke is out to due
injury for the November 10th event. Stepping in for Bourke will be
Gladiator
Challenge\EliteXC veteran
Bo Cantrell. Kimbo stated during the teleconference that he is excited
and ready
to fight.
Another featured bout for the
November 10th event will see UFC and PRIDE veteran Nick Diaz take
on
EliteXC standout KJ Noons
for a world title.
Plus former Shooto champion
Jake Shields will be in action against the tough Mike Pyle -
who's holds a
a unanimous decision victory
over King of the Cage welterweight champion Aaron Witherspoon this
past
June 22nd at StrikeForce:
Shamrock vs. Baroni. And while this bout was to have been for a title, Mr.
Shaw
stated that Pyle didn't want
to fight for the title and is not happy - and that this will probably be
Pyle's last
fight with EliteXC.
