SUNRISE, Fla. – MMA heavyweight Ken Shamrock has been declared medically ineligible to compete in

tonight’s CBS EliteXC Saturday Night Fights co-main event against Kimbo Slice.  Shamrock sustained a

cut to the area above his left eye during a training session earlier today.

"It appears that he was warming up as he stated, rolling over and received a head butt, which resulted in a

laceration over his eye," stated Dr. Alan Fields of the Florida State Athletic Commission in an interview with

cageside reporter Karyn Bryant.  "He received 6 sutures in the eyebrow. He explained that he wanted to

fight, however for his safety, we have rules. Anyone with a recent laceration cannot go participate in a fight."

Heavyweight Seth Petruzelli, of Ft. Meyers, Fla., originally slated to fight Aaron Rosa on the non-televised

undercard, has stepped in to replace the injured Shamrock in the CBS co-main event. Petruzelli was offered

the fight against Slice just hours before the broadcast was set to begin, and immediately accepted.

Slice, while disappointed that Shamrock can not compete, also accepted the Petruzelli fight immediately.

Petruzelli, a former UFC light heavyweight and US karate champion, stands at 6’ 0”, and weighed in officially

on Friday for his fight with Rosa at 205 ˝ pounds.  His record is 10 wins, 4 losses. Petruzelli trains with

American Top Team, widely considered to be one of the best MMA training franchises in the country.
