FUJI TV and the “Bas Tour”
have hit Southern California! As part of FUJI TV’s
sports program, “SRS” (Special
Ring Side), Bas Rutten welcomed SRS
television hosts, the Asakusa
Kids (Suidobashi Hakase & Tamabukuro
Sujitarou) to Los
Angeles to take a look at the Southern California mixed
martial arts scene. This
included stops at Eddie Bravo’s 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu
|
Academy in Hollywood, a visit
to Marcus Vinicius’ Beverly Hills Jiu Jitsu Academy to meet PRIDE
FIGHTING audition winners
Tyrone Glover and KJ Noons, and a stop at a California sports
bar to meet
some hardcore PRIDE fans.
The first stop on the “Bas
Tour” was the 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Academy, located within the “Bomb
Squad”
Gym in Hollywood, California.
Led by its founder and head instructor, Eddie Bravo, 10th Planet is
unique
for its revolutionary form of
no-gi Jiu Jitsu, modeled completely from Bravo’s style. The SRS crew was
treated to some of Bravo’s
famous moves including the “twister” and “rubber guard.” Best known for
submitting Royler Gracie
in ADCC competition in 2003, Bravo has been spending his time developing a
stable of fighters, which
includes future PRIDE fighter Jason Chambers. In addition, the SRS
crew was
able to sample Bravo’s talents
as a musician.

The second stop was Beverly
Hills Jiu Jitsu where the SRS crew was introduced to two of PRIDE’S up and
coming young fighters … Tyrone
Glover and KJ Noons. Both were two of only four fighters selected at the
PRIDE auditions in Los Angeles
in November of 2004. Noons and Glover have recently wrapped up training
stints under Mat Hume
at AMC Pankration in Seattle, Washington. Both fighters represent the City
Boxing
Gym in San Diego, California.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Glover is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu phenom and
was recently promoted to the
rank of black belt. Noons is a native of Honolulu, Hawaii and is a stand
up
striker with a background in
San Shou, Muay Thai, and boxing. Noons is coming off of a TKO victory over
Malik Williams at
SUPERBRAWL on April 9th. The SRS crew was able to meet these up and coming
fighters and were treated to
demonstrations of some of their special moves!

The final stop was a sports
bar in Santa Monica, California where the Asakusa Kids met with a
contingent of
PRIDE “Otaku” (the Japanese
term to describe extreme fanatics). The Otakus were quizzed and given
prizes from the SRS staff!
