NAAFS Fight Nite in the
Flats 4 Makes History
June 9th was truly an historic night for the North American Allied Fight Series. Professional debuts were made, champions were crowned, upsets took place and blood was shed. Over three thousand of the promotions most rabid fans packed into the Plain Dealer Pavilion and created an electric atmosphere that was only fitting for the biggest NAAFS event of the year. Match by match as day turned to night, warriors fought by the sun and moonlight that reflected vibrantly off the Cuyahoga River, amidst the backdrop of beautiful downtown Cleveland. Many ships passed by as amateur and professional fighters put it all on the line for the biggest fights of their careers. It was truly a sight to behold. A quick note before we get started: the band that played before the show (Rosella) was awesome. The NAAFS is the region's premiere mixed martial arts (MMA) organization, running multiple live events each month throughout Ohio. On Sunday May 4th, the NAAFS will bring the 'big fight' atmosphere to Streetsboro's Mustang Salliz for the first time.
Jason "Dynamite Dent (21-8/Team Griffon Rawl) defeated Nick Sorg (6-5/Team Predator) at 4:33 into the second round via submission after an armbar. Nick Sorg came like a bat out of hell in the first round and reigned down a fury of what appeared to be impressive looking punches. For a second I thought Dent was done. Then Jason Dent backed away, shook his head, indicating that none of the several punches thrown did any damage, and told Sorg that he would have to bring it much harder if he wanted to knock him out. If there was an award for most stone cold badass son of a bitch of the year, Jason Dent would win it easily. That move had to have killed Sorg's confidence. After that it was almost all Dent. Jason landed a few impressive spin kicks and methodical punches. Jason had Sorg in a standing choke at the beginning of the second round, but then Sorg scored a takedown. Dent went into his guard and reversed into the dominant position. Then Sorg reversed back into the dominant position! Dent, from his guard, executed an odd looking armbar attempt while also digging his foot into Nick Sorg's neck. Dent eventually turned this move into a more conventional looking armbar which ended the fight. Jason Dent wins and captures the NAAFS Pro Series Lightweight Title to add to his impressive list of accolades. Muhamad Ali would be very proud of Jason Dent's intelligent and methodical strategy in this fight.
