The Rivalry Continues - Petz vs. Howard

Added to Fight Nite in the Flats V

24 Hours Left to get your Early Bird Ticket Specials

(04/14/09 - Cleveland, OH) - Throughout the years, Fight Nite in the Flats has featured some of the top

fighters in the highly coveted main event slot at the Nautica Pavilion. Names such as Ben Rothwell, Dan

"The Bull" Bobish, and Jason "Dynamite" Dent have all closed the show with their hand held high in victory.

On June 6th, Fight Nite in the Flats V will feature one of the most anticipated fights in this showcase event's

history when 2006 NAAFS National Amateur Middleweight Champion & EliteXC veteran Tiawon "The Iron

Dragon" Howard (12-3) of Rising Dragon Fight Team takes on five-time UFC veteran Forrest "The Meat

Cleaver" Petz (14-6) of Strong Style Fight Team, renewing one of the top rivalries in the NAAFS.

The rivalry between Rising Dragon Fight Team, based in West Cleveland, and Strong Style Fight Team,

based in Independence, has evolved into one of the competitive feuds in the NAAFS. Although both camps

are professional with one another, it's a continuing battle of one-upmanship inside the cage and at the gym

as well. This rivalry reached an all time high at NAAFS Night of Champions 2008, when "Smokin" Joe

Heiland of Strong Style defeated Torrance "The Tyrant" Taylor of Rising Dragon by Unanimous Decision in a

very close fight that incited opinions galore from all sides of the NAAFS Nation. Now this rivalry is set to

continue at the NAAFS' showcase event Fight Nite in the Flats V!

Tiawon "The Iron Dragon" Howard is a product of the NAAFS National Amateur Series, having captured

Middleweight gold at Caged Vengeance 3 in 2006. Throughout his career, Howard has defeated such

competitors as Travis Burnett, Brandon Pierce, and Johnny Hughes for ShoXC's Elite Challenger Series. In

fact, Howard was signed to a contract with EliteXC before the promotion folded late last year. Now he is

returning to his roots, looking to earn the biggest victory of his career and to do it at the region's premier

mixed martial arts event.

"The Meat Cleaver" Forrest Petz is arguably the most successful local fighter to have never competed inside

the NAAFS cage, until now. The former five-time UFC veteran has faced some of the toughest competition

available in the sport and has wins over the likes of Luigi Fiorvanti, Sam Morgan, Brian Gassoway, Charles

"Crazy Horse" Bennett, and Dan Hardy. In fact, Forrest Petz was never finished in any of his UFC losses. In

his last UFC fight, Petz battled Josh Burkman to a very close Split Decision loss than many insiders felt

could have gone the other way. Although this is technically his NAAFS debut, Forrest Petz has been a

fixture in the promotion for years as both a corner to his Strong Style teammates and as one of the top

referees in the sport. On June 6th, he will have the opportunity to add another accomplishment to his

resume: winning in the main event of Fight Nite in the Flats.

The eyes of the entire NAAFS Nation and the MMA world will be zeroed in on the Nautica Stage on

Saturday June 6th for the most anticipated fight card top to bottom to ever take place. This mega fight, in

addition to the already previously announced fights will ensure that Fight Nite in the Flats V will be the best

installment of the event yet.

"When I heard Forrest Petz was going to be fighting for the NAAFS against Tiawon (Howard), I honestly felt

goose bumps," commented Pro Series Lightweight Champion & star on the current season of The Ultimate

Fighter reality show Jason Dent.

Dent will be one of the several UFC veterans that will be in attendance at Fight Nite in the Flats V, many of

which are weighing in on this epic match-up.

"This definitely has a big fight feel to it. This might be the biggest MMA fight in Cleveland history. I'm really

looking forward to seeing this fight," said UFC and NAAFS veteran Josh "Heavy" Hendricks.

In addition to the stellar fight card, Fight Nite in the Flats V will also feature a special meet & greet session

with several UFC fighters. Already confirmed to attend are current Ultimate Fighter reality show star &

current NAAFS Pro Series Lightweight Champion Jason Dent & Forrest Petz, "The Grinder" Jeff Cox, Josh

"Heavy" Hendricks, Ryan "The Lion" Madigan, and current Pro Series Middleweight Champion Sean Salmon,

with more names to be added soon.
