N-D-N Promotions Presents

Freestyle Cage Fighting

Results

November 10, 2006

Brady Theater

 Tulsa, Oklahoma

- Special Thanks go out to Anthony J. Sullivan for the following recap and results:

It was another great night of fights at Freestyle Cage Fighting presented by N-D-N Promotions this past

Friday night. In attendance were top ranked Tulsa super middleweight boxer Allen Green and former UFC

heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski - Arlovski was a special guest and was brought into the cage after

the third bout - and did a great job with the fans - his next fight will be in December at UFC 66. He

also had that cool-ass 1980s lion medallion on. UFC veteran David Heath was also in attendance pulling

double duties as a referee and judge for this promotion. Heath said he would be fighting for the UFC on

December 13th on Spike TV against "a Canadian fellow." All bouts for the event were three rounds (three

minutes each round) except the main event which was three rounds (five minutes each round).

Fight 1

Lee Gibson wins by first round TKO (strikes) over Michael Funk

The 159 lb. Lee Gibson of Kansas City (now 5-1 with 4-0-2 am record) defeated the 158 lb. Michael Funk of

Iowa (now 1-5) in the first round by TKO (ref stoppage) in under 30 seconds. Gibson was coming off his first

loss (against UFC fighter Justin James) so this looked to be a given win. Gibson is one of those fighters who

has always impressed me but I always wondered how he would do against tougher competition. Funk rushed

him to start off the fight but was taken down immediately. On the ground, Funk turned sideways and was hit

with a vicious barrage of punches which ended the fight. Gibson has a unique style unto his own - with wild

hair and a body covered in what look like evil tattoos.

Fight 2

Jared Lopez wins by second round TKO (strikes) over Michael Ledford

The 146 lb. Jared Lopez of Amarillo, Texas (now 1-1) defeated the 144 lb. Michael Ledford of Oklahoma City,

Oklahoma (now 0-2) in the second round via a TKO due to a ref stoppage. It started out with Lopez grabbing

a leg and pushing his opponent into the cage but ate some knees to the face in the process. Ledford

continued to throw knees while trying a standing guillotine. The ref separated them up due to no action but

Lopez grabbed the leg again - eventually getting the takedown. While they were standing, Lopez landed

many awesome foot stomps that echoed throughout the theater. Lopez ate a straight hard right to the face to

start out the second round. Before too long, the fight went to the ground with Lopez on top. He threw

punches to his downed foe until the ref stepped in to stop it. The crowd booed the stoppage but I think it was

more due to the winner being from Texas.

Fight 3

Alex Jackson wins by first round TKO (strikes) over Clint Kerley

Huge crowd favorite and now 1-0 Alex Jackson (155 lbs) of Norman, Oklahoma defeated the 0-4 Clint Kerley

(154 lbs) quickly in the first round by TKO - ref stoppage due to strikes. Kerley came out full of energy

throwing haymakers but was taken down. Jackson slammed him down to reposition Kerley on the ground,

then landed punch after punch until the referee stopped it. The bout lasted over a minute so Kerley showed

his toughness by hanging in there. The way the crowd exploded for the win made Jackson look like a

superstar.

Fight 4

Craig Cobb wins by first round TKO (strikes) over Lee Anderson

The 183 lb. Craig Cobb of Marlow, Oklahoma (now 4-0) defeated the 183 lb. Lee Anderson of Wichita,

Kansas (now 0-1) in the first round by TKO - ref stoppage due to strikes. Cobb was coming off a great win

one week ago at this promotions last show. They came out trading punches until the fight hit the ground with

Cobb in top mount. Anderson tried a choke but lost it when Cobb started landing bombs. Anderson reversed

the position but had it reversed himself in a good mat struggle for position. Cobb then landed some more big

punches while Anderson turtled up until it was stopped.

Fight 5 - Woman's Bout

Julianna Mercado wins a three round unanimous decision over Liz Carreiro

The 148 lb. Julianna Mercado of Ft. Smith, Arkansas (now 1-0) defeated the 149 lb. crowd favorite Liz

Carreiro of Tulsa, Oklahoma by unanimous decision in three rounds. No scores were announced. Carreiro

fights out of Mikey's (as in UFC fighter Mikey Burnett) Gym in Tulsa. The crowd was electric for this bout as

this was the first woman's MMA bout I can remember in this area in a long time. In the first round, both of

them came out brawling without much concern for defense - Mercado landed some good knees when she

had Carreiro against the cage. They both mainly stood and threw punches throughout this round. Mercado

took it to the ground but Carreiro took the top position and started landing punches as the crowd went wild to

end the round. In the second, they came out throwing again with Mercado landing the better shots. After a

bit, Mercado realized she could land her uppercut at will as Carreiro was leaning into them. Carreiro looked

to have gassed about the time when Mercado started landing big knees to the face of Carreiro. The fight

would have been over if Mercado had more muster to her punches as she was finding the target for just about

every one of them. The third round started with Carreiro taking Mercado to the ground within seconds (to the

delight of the crowd) but she lost position and Mercado started raining down punches. The bout ended with

Mercado landing shot after shot while Carreiro laid on her back. Both of these girls gave it their all and the

crowd absolutely loved this fight.

Fight 6

Tad Godsey wins a split decision over Roman Gregory

The 205 lb. Tad Godsey of Wichita, Kansas (now 1-0) defeated the local crowd favorite, 205 lb. Roman

Gregory of Tulsa, Oklahoma (now 0-1) via split decision with scores of 29-28, 29-28 & 28-29. This was a

great, evenly matched fight that was mainly a stand-up battle. The crowd was chanting "Roman, Roman" to

start the fight and he ran towards Godsey but was launched into the air with a huge throw. Godsey was able

to control the taller Gregory on the ground and landed huge powerful shots with his massive shoulders. The

referee stood them up and Gregory was finally able to take a bit of control with his reach advantage. In the

second round, the stand up battle continued with Gregory once again landing some great punches before

taking Godsey to the ground. Godsey was able to reverse the position on the mat and tried to take his foe's

back but Gregory was able to reverse it to end the round. In the third and final round, we saw Godsey change

his game plan by landing leg kicks to his opponent. Gregory eventually was able to take Godsey down but

lost position once again. The action slowed as they both looked to tire. Roman came alive in the final ten

seconds probably winning the round. Both men were excellent in their first professional match and have a

bright future in this sport as they continue to improve.

Fight  7

Warren Walker wins by first round submission (strikes) over Joseph Lee

The 174 lb. Warren Walker (now 3-1) of Tulsa, Oklahoma defeated the 180 lb. kickboxer Joseph Lee (now

0-2) of Tulsa, Oklahoma in the first round by tap out due to strikes. Walker came towards Lee and threw him

down with a brutal slam. Walker then landed some big punches and Lee tapped. Lee fought and lost one

week ago for this promotion doing about the same. Walker still remains high on the list of up-and-coming

fighters in this area as he looks better every time out.

Fight 8

Ken Jackson wins by first round submission (rear naked choke) over Brent Smith

The 169 lb. Ken Jackson of Norman, Oklahoma (now 4-0) defeated the 170 lb. Brent Smith of Ft. Smith,

Arkansas (now 0-1) in the first round by rear naked choke. Smith won the crowd over coming out to a funny

disco song, dancing around - It was truly one of the best ring entrances I've seen in a while. Jackson started

the fight taking Smith down and then just swarmed him from the top. Smith had Jackson by the leg and

stood him back up but lost position. On the ground, Jackson quickly took his back and secured the rear

naked choke for the win. Jackson once again looked very impressive after winning a fight on this promotions

last show only a week ago. Smith did a very good job but was just simply outclassed in his pro debut. This

Jackson along with his brother Mike are ones to watch as they are developing their skills very quickly.

Fight 9

Dave Tyner wins by first round TKO (strikes) over James Grant

Crowd favorite, 254 lb. Dave Tyner of Salina, Oklahoma (now 1-0) defeated the 262 lb. James Grant of

Salisaw, Oklahoma (now 0-2) by TKO in the first round from a ref stoppage due to strikes. They scrambled

around to start things off until they hit the ground and Tyner had the mount. Tyner landed some big shots but

Grant reversed it and they ended up back on their feet. While standing, Grant was getting the better of the

exchanges until Tyner landed a huge right hand that caused a flash knockdown. The referee then jumped in

to stop the bout with Grant looking just fine. The crowd hated this premature stoppage as the action had just

started getting good. Grant complained and the crowd booed heavily but it had already been called.

Fight 10

Bobby Voelker wins a unanimous decision over Clay Mars

The 170 lb. Bobby Voelker of Kansas City, Kansas (now 6-2) defeated the local favorite, 170 lb. Clay Mars

(now 2-1) by unanimous decision with scores of 29-28, 29-28, 29-28 in a very uneventful bout. Mars fights

out of Mikey's Gym in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The fight lacked action which is not a knock on either fighter as

their styles just clashed here. Mars is very good defensively while Voelker is a pure ground & pounder. It

was mainly Voelker on top trying to hit Mars with Mars neutralizing him with a great guard. Mars tried for a

triangle choke at times but Voelker just had too big of shoulder and upper body power and was able to pull

out every time. It was a broken record all three rounds as they would hit the ground, the action would stall,

the ref would stand them up, and then it would happen again.

Fight 11

Tom Jones wins by first round submission (rear naked choke) over Manuel Quiroz

The 194 lb. Tom "Vulgar" Jones of Mikey's Gym in Tulsa, Oklahoma (now 11-4) defeated the 200 lb.

Manuel Quiroz of Iowa (now 6-19) in 43 seconds of the first round by rear naked choke. These two came out

to the middle and just started throwing for the fences until the match hit the ground. On the ground, Quiroz

lost hold on Jones and Jones quickly took his back for the win. The first 20 seconds of this fight was some of

the most exciting fighting I've seen in a while.

Fight 12 - Main Event: FCF 185 lb. Title Bout

Gerald Harris wins by second round TKO (injury) over Bubba McDaniel

The 184 lb. Gerald Harris of East Tulsa (now 4-0) won the title by beating the 183 lb. Bubba McDaniel of

Wichita Falls, Texas(now 5-2) in the second round by TKO due to injury in the fight of the night. They each

landed a good punch before Harris put McDaniel on the ground hard. McDaniel showed tremendous skill on

the ground off his back as he almost got a triangle but Harris was able to get away. Harris then picked up

McDaniel when they were on their feet and slammed him down hard for the second time. On the ground,

McDaniel showed his patience and again almost secured the triangle before Harris slammed his way out of

it. From the bottom, McDaniel transitions into an arm bar with Harris slamming his way out of it. The first

round ended with McDaniel going for the arm bar again. The second round started with McDaniel trying to

shoot in but Harris took the top mount position. It was eventually stood up by the referee and Harris took

McDaniel down - pinning him against the cage. After being stood up for a second time, McDaniel showed a

great sprawl as Harris tried to shoot in. Harris was able to pick McDaniel up and over his head with a

humongous slam that caused McDaniel to get injured by the impact. McDaniel looked to have broken a rib

as he was helped out of the ring and taken to the hospital. Harris was presented the title belt by Andre

Arlovski. Both of these fighters are two of the best around. Harris is an intense, strong fighter in the mold of

Quinton Jackson while McDainel has amazing skill fighting on the ground - always looking calm. This was a

great fight and I hope to see them matched up again when McDaniel heals from his injury.
