N-D-N Promotions Presents Freestyle Cage Fighting Recap \ Results
February 10, 2007 Cain's Ballroom Tulsa, Oklahoma
- Special Thanks go out to Anthony J. Sullivan for the following recap and results:
N-D-N Promotions Freestyle Cage Fighting played host to standing room only crowd last Friday night - nine bouts were featured on the card but due to an unfortunate accident, three additional fights had to be cancelled when three fighters from Galena, Kansas were involved in a major auto accident on the way to the event. And before the main event, Gerald Harris came into the cage and apologized to the audience for not fighting on the card. He was one of the fighters who's bout fell out after the injury to the Kansas fighters. He wished the Kansas guys get better. All bouts were scheduled for three rounds (three minutes each round)
unless noted. Blake Norsworthy wins by submission (keylock) at 1:49 of the first round over Chad Crane The 180 lb. Norsworthy of Skiatook, Oklahoma defeated the 184 lb. Crane of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma by first round keylock. Norsworthy represented the Miletech Fighting Systems of Oklahoma group and I was told his record is now 3-0 after this win. Crane came into this bout with a 0-1 record. The bout started with some great kicks by Norsworthy before they locked up and hit the ground with Norsworthy in control. On the ground, Crane showed some ability as he briefly took control after a leg sweep but ended up on the bottom
of the mount position. After
some punches, Norsworthy was able to apply the keylock for the win. Jason Teeman wins by TKO (strikes) at 1:53 of the first round over Cleyburn Walker The 185 lb. Teeman of Kansas City, Missouri defeated the 179 lb. Walker of Stephenville, Texas by first round TKO due to strikes. Teeman had a major advantage coming in with an amateur record of 6-1 and a pro record of 1-0. Teeman took Walker down to start the bout. Walker was able to get up but was taken down again where Teeman tried an arm bar that he couldn't sink. Teeman was smothering Walker with punches from the top to get the win. Walker had little offense but was able to get out of the submission attempts so he made a good showing for himself against a seasoned pro.
Fight 3 - 145 lb. Bout Colin Wagner wins by submission (rear naked choke) at 1:35 of the first round over Arnulfo Veloquio The 145 lb. Wagner of Norman, Oklahoma defeated the 145 lb. crowd favorite Veloquio of Pryor, Oklahoma by first round submission due to a rear naked choke. Wagner is now 1-1 and Veloquio is 0-2. They circled, then clinched up with Wagner taking the fight to the ground. Wagner took control on top, throwing hard punches until he was able to get the back where he sunk in the choke for the win.
Fight 4 - 145 lb. Bout Cameron Coffman wins by submission (arm bar) at 2:00 of the first round over Eric Sofian The 145 lb. Coffman of Norman, Oklahoma defeated the 143 lb. Sofian of Barnsdall, Oklahoma by first round submission due to an arm bar. Coffman is now 1-1 while Miletech Fighting Systems of Oklahoma's Sofian is 0-2. Coffman shot in and got the takedown to start the bout. Sofian was able to get a guillotine choke from his back where he tried to lock in the hold for most of the match. Coffman eventually escaped the submission attempt and got the arm bar for the win.
Fight 5 - 210 lb. Bout Roman Gregory wins by TKO (strikes) at 1:53 of the first round over Jerry Vazquez The 205 lb. Gregory of Tulsa, Oklahoma defeated the 193 lb. Vazquez of Pryor, Oklahoma by first round TKO due to strikes. The now 1-1 Gregory appeared to be in much better shape then his first bout. Gregory started the bout with a very weak looking takedown attempt and walked right into a standing guillotine choke.
Gregory was able to reverse
the hold and take top mount on the ground where he unloaded a barrage of
punches. He was landing big blows and Jerry wasn't defending so the
referee called halt to the action. A very dominate showing for Roman
Gregory. Dave Tyner wins by submission (strikes) at 2:35 of the first round over Mitch Smith The 255 lb. Tyner of Salina, Oklahoma defeated the 255 lb. Smith of Pryor, Oklahoma by first round tap out due to strikes. The now 4-0 Tyner slammed Smith down hard to the ground and landed some huge punches. When Tyner wasn't landing head shots, he was landing big body blows. Even though they weighed the same, Tyner was the larger man. Smith was trying to knee from the bottom but was taking too many shots to continue. Smith showed a huge heart for hanging in as long as he did because the punches he was taking were echoing throughout the ballroom.
Fight 7 - 170 lb. Bout Mike Jackson wins by submission (arm bar) at :53 of the first round over Justin Niedens The 165 lb. Jackson of Norman, Oklahoma defeated the 165 lb. Niedens of Kansas City, Kansas by first round arm bar. Mike moved to 4-1 with this win and is the twin brother of Ken Jackson. Mike tried a big head kick to start the bout but it didn't land. After Mike took Nieden to the ground, he quickly flipped into the arm bar to win quickly. Niedens looked outclassed in this bout but he came into it with a 3-0 amateur record.
Fight 8 - 145 lb. Bout Tanner McPherson wins by submission (guillotine choke) at 2:34 of the first round over Shane Waits The 148 lb. McPherson of Tulsa, Oklahoma defeated the 145 lb. Waits of Berryhill, Oklahoma by first round standing guillotine choke in the Fight of the Night. McPherson is now 2-1 while Waits is 5-3 after this match. It was all Waits from the opening bell as he landed a good high kick but was tagged by some punches to the face. They hit the ground with Waits in control. After some action on the ground, they stood up where McPherson quickly secured the submission hold for the win. This was a very exciting match.
Fight 9 - Main Event: FCF Lightweight Title Bout (3 Rdsx5 min) Steve Schneider wins by submission (kimura) at 1:10 of the third round over David Roberts The 158 lb. Schneider of Kansas City, Kansas defeated the 153 lb. Roberts of Madill, Oklahoma to win the title with a third round kimura. The first two round were mainly Schneider holding Roberts in a standing guillotine while landing knees. The crowd was very happy to see the ring card girl come out because all the other bouts had ended in the first so that helped keep the fans excited during this. The size difference was notable in the bout. In the third round, Schneider was able to take the bout to the ground where he sunk in the kimura for the win. After the bout, Jason Maxwell entered the cage to make a challenge to the new champion who is now 3-3 (plus a 2-1 am record). They will be fighting on April 15th in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Roberts is now 2-2. Schneider has fought the better competition but didn't make it out of the first round in his
fights with former UFC
fighters Jay Hieron and Pat Healy.
