MissMMA TRYOUT Has moved to a new date and location
May 19, 2007 Colorado Combat Zone Denver, Colorado
MissMMA TRYOUT, hosted by Victory Challenge, is now scheduled for May 19th, at Colorado Combat Zone. The date and location changed due to Nate "The Great" Marquardt's training schedule. Nate is training for his chance at the UFC Middleweight belt, currently held by "The Spider" Anderson Silva. We all want Nate to win, so Lawrence Gaytan of Victory Challenge decided it best if we moved the event from High Altitude to Joe Montalvo's Colorado Combat Zone located at 6070 East 49th Dr, Denver CO 80022.
MissMMA TRYOUT is an All-Female Mixed Martial Art event. Any woman with martial arts experience is encouraged to come to the open TRYOUT on May 19th. The event is not full contact. Only light sparring is permitted at the TRYOUT, "There will not be any physical combat, only sparring, so come give it a try and see your level of fitness." said Gaytan. This makes the event inviting to any women of any skill level to attend.
The purpose of the TRYOUT is to build an all-female-fight card for August 2007. Gaytan feels that women need their own place to demonstrate to the world that woman can stand up for themselves in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts.
To match competitors accurately, the TRYOUT is composed of three events that will test each person's capabilities, "It's not just how good you are, it's how evenly you are matched against an opponent that makes for an interesting fight." said Gaytan about match making.
The event will go as follows: The women will be divided into equal size groups. There will be three testing stations and a ring for sparring. The first mat tests cardio and agility. The second tests their ground game. And, the third mat evaluates the women's stand-up skills. Concluding each test, the women are given a numerical grade. This grade determines how well they do in the over-all event.
Women with similar scores are to be matched up for live sparring in a ring. This gives the contestant a place to show the world exactly what she can do. The Judges of this event are looking for control and execution of MMA skills and athleticism.
When MissMMA TRYOUT is over, the women with the best scores from all the stations, including the ring, will be invited back to fight on Victory Challenge's All-Female-Fight card in August 2007. Sponsorship opportunities are available for the event, the movie, and on the web, so for any woman out there that yearns to step in the ring, this is your chance.
