Mari's Minute King of The Cage "Sinister" Recap \ Results April 27, 2007 Soboba Casino San Jacinto, California
Another fantastic night for King of the Cage at Soboba Casino with a total of 21 fights and lots of impressive wins which made for a great night of action. Some notables in attendance included Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Thomas Kenney, Thomas Denny, Todd Medina and Turi Altavilla to name just a few. Here is how it all went down.
Fight 1 Alex Rickards wins a two round unanimous decision over Aijalon Pace Round One - They touched gloves, Rickards missed with a kick and they tied up against the cage. Pace got a weak guillotine choke but Rickards was able to get out and connected with a strong punch and grabbed an arm for an Americana attempt - Pace got out of it but Rickards was able to connect with strong punches to the body that allowed Rickards to get the full mount. Once in full mount, Rickards starts pounding away with at least 20 consecutive left hand punches that connected easily. Rickards was able to hang on and after a few warnings from the referee to do something, he was able to get his arm in and block punches. Towards the end of the round, the referee stood them back up. This benefited Pace, who was able to get Rickards in a choke hold but the bell rang (not giving him enough time to get the submission). Both fighters started round two with more caution - Both exchanging strikes and keeping the fight on their feet most of the round. Rickards was able to connect with better, stronger strikes that appeared to do more damage for the decision win.
Fight 2 Andy Balmore wins by submission (rear naked choke) at 3:07 of the first round over Nicholas Gallegos Balmore connected with a kick to the body at the start of round one. After both connected with strikes, they tied up and went down leaning against the cage with Gallegos in top position. Gallegos was able to connect with punches and a couple of elbows but after no real action, the referee stood them up. Once on their feet, Balmore was able to connect with a strong right punch that hurt Gallegos. Balmore saw the opportunity and rushed in with a flying knee and was able to take his back as Gallegos went to the floor. Balmore went for the neck and was able to get the rear naked choke.
Fight 3 Joe Calavitta wins by first round submission (rear naked choke) over Ty Gilstrap They touch gloves - Calavitta misses with his strike and they tie up and go to the ground. Calavitta attempted a neck crank but Gilstrap was able to get out of it by using his strength. Once on their feet, both connected with strikes and once again, Calavitta took it to the ground where he was able to connect and work his submission skills. Calavitta was able to get the arm under the neck for a rear naked choke.
Fight 4 Cody Bohlinger wins by submission (choke) at 1:20 of the first round over Kacey Roberts Bohlinger went in for a punch but they tied up and Roberts got slammed. With Bollinger in side mount, he was able to connect with knees and other strikes. Roberts managed to roll over but Bollinger was able to get what appeared to be a choke. Before you knew it, the referee (Doc Hamilton) stopped the fight and indicated that Roberts had tapped out. Roberts got up and was obviously upset at the ref's decision.
Fight 5 Keith Berry wins by knockout at :12 of the first round over Adrian Perez Berry immediately went in and connected with a few knees and continued with punches that knocked Perez out cold - The referee immediately stopped the fight and called for medical attention to enter the cage. After a few minutes and an oxygen mask, Perez was able to stand up (with some help) and walk away.
Fight 6 Ben Beebe wins by second round TKO (strikes) over Dwayne Harrison In the first, Beebe connected with the first clean punch but Harrison was able to counter with a couple of jabs - Both fighters tied up against the cage. Once against the cage, both connected with short punches and knees that led them to the center of the cage. Once in the center, a quicker Harrison connected with a series of right, left straight punches that did some damage to Beebe’s right eye. Towards the end of the round round, Harrison connected with a strong right that dropped Beebe but there wasn't time for Harrison to finish the job. At the start of round two, Beebe was still pressing forward and connecting with punches here and there. Beebe was able to take Harrison against the cage and drop him. With Beebe now on top, he was able to get the side mount and connect with punches to the face. After a few punches from Beebe, he was able to get in full mount and punch away - The referee decided Harrison had had enough and stops the fight.
Fight 7 Shane Rice wins by submission (rear naked choke) at 1:21 of the first round over Matt Wilburn Wilburn starts the round with a left jab that misses - Rice moves in and is able to take Wilburn down. Rice, now in top position, was able to connect with strikes - then Wilburn, as he tries to get out, rolls over - giving Rice his back. Rice is able to get the arm under the neck for the rear naked choke.
Fight 8 Uber Gallegos wins a two round majority decision over Shawn Loeffler Loeffler starts the first round with low kicks that connected while Gallegos countered with a punch while launching in. They tied up and Loeffler was able to connect with a few knees to body. Gallegos receives an accidental knee to groin area and the referee stops the fight to let Gallegos recover before restarting fight. Gallegos was able to land a clean punch and Loeffler then takes Gallegos to the ground and mounts. Loeffler connected with strikes in full mount position - Gallegos, not giving up, was able to reverse the mount and get on top. Gallegos turned things around and connected with some strikes of his own ending the round. Once again, Loeffler starts the second round with a low kick - They tied up but neither doing any damage. Gallegos was able to get the take down right before connecting with a couple of elbows. With Gallegos now on top, he was able to connect with a series of knees and elbows. The round ends with Gallegos in side mount - striking and connecting.
Fight 9 Reggie Orr wins by second round TKO (strikes) over Dave Roberts Both started the fight by connecting with jabs - They tied up and Roberts ends up against the cage - Orr connected with strikes to the body and face - Roberts gets a cut above the eye early in the round. Orr is dominating the round with his strikes. Roberts was able to turn and get away from the cage for just a moment but Orr once again connected with a clean punch that stunned Roberts. Orr tied him up against the cage but still dominated the round with his strikes. A right low kick from Roberts started the second round - Orr countered with strikes of his own. Although Roberts countered with a punch, Orr was able to overpower Roberts with punches and kicks that hurt him. Orr then connected with a couple of knees and punches that dropped Roberts - The referee stepped in and stopped the fight.
Fight 10 Victor Valenzuela wins by submission (rear naked choke) at :30 of the first round over Scott Ayres A bit of a slow start but Ayres finally rushed in for the take down and got caught - Valenzuela, aka “Joe Boxer,” with his back to the mat and Ayres on top, was able to hook the leg and turn Ayres over - all while Valenzuela was still on the bottom with back on the mat - from there, Valenzuela was able to get the rear naked choke.
Fight 11 Lucas Taber wins by submission (heel hook) at :52 of the first round over Calvin Bell Bell (as in the fighter) starts the round by connecting with right, left punches. They tied up and Bell took Taber down. They scrambled and Taber got a hold of Bell’s foot - Taber holds on for the heel hook, leaving Bell with no choice but to tap out.
Fight 12 Josh Griggs wins a two round unanimous decision over Ben Fuimaono As the fight began, Griggs immediately rushed in for the take down. Griggs, in top position, was able to connect with punches to body and face while Fuimaono tried to hold his arms. Fuimaono, from bottom, tried to go for a leg triangle but was unsuccessful. Griggs was still connecting with elbows and punches - and after a while, the referee stood them back up to the center of the cage. Griggs once again took Fuimaono down and again was able to connect with strikes as Fuimaono held on ending the round. Griggs took Fuimaono down at the start of round two - Griggs was able to open up Fuimaono’s head with a series of strikes. The referee stood them back up after a while and once again, Griggs got the take down. After a few strikes from Griggs, Fuimaono was able to move around and reverse mount position for just a moment. Then Griggs was able to get out and once again, mount Fuimaono ending the round in a dominating performance.
Fight 13 Chase Gormley wins a two round unanimous decision over Jon Murphy The fight started with a right punch from Murphy that connected and then they went go to the ground. Gormley in top position connected with strikes to the face and body. Murphy is able to block some of the punches and also connected a few of his own. The referee stood the fighters back up and this favored Murphy who was able to connect with a couple of strong punches that moved Gormley back at the end of the round. Murphy throws the first punch at the start of the second round that barely connected. After a nice exchange of punches from both fighters, Gormley was able to take Murphy down and connected with a series of body punches. Even though Gormley was able to connect with lots of strikes, Murphy wasn't giving up. The referee (Cecil Peoples) stood them back up and a bloody Murphy connected with a nice left high kick. For a brief moment, they went to the ground but found their way back up. Murphy was able to get a couple of strikes before going to the ground again and that is how they ended the fight.
Fight 14 Charlie Kohler wins by submission (strikes) at 2:16 of the first round over Matt Dell Kohler took Dell down at the start of the round and got the top position. From there, Kohler was able to land some strikes before the referee stood them back up. Before they restarted, the referee allowed Dell to take a couple of hits of his inhaler. The fight then restarted and Kohler immediately rushed Dell and punched away - taking Dell to the ground and strikes away. The referee stepped in and stopped the fight at the same time Dell tapped out.
Fight 15 Aaron “Slam” Wetherspoon wins by submission (arm bar) at 3:10 of the first round over Laverne Clark The fight started with Clark connecting with a kick, then Wetherspoon rushed in with strikes and went for the take down. Clark was able to get top position and throw strikes that were mostly blocked by Wetherspoon. Then Wetherspoon attempted an arm bar but Clark slipped away. After an exchange of punches, Wetherspoon once again gets the arm but Clark was able to get out. But as they say, the third time is the charm - Wetherspoon was able to get the arm again and held on for the submission win.
Fight 16 Melvin Costa wins by knockout (punch) at 1:06 of the first round over Tim Alberte They started off with an exchange of strikes which took them to the ground - With Alberte in top position, he was able to connect with some strikes but they immediately got back up. Costa then connected with a strong, clean punch that dropped Alberte to the ground for the knockout win.
Fight 17 Chad Walteres wins by submission (rear naked choke) at 2:41 of the second round over Andy Jewett Walteres was the first to connect with strikes - They then tied up and took it to the ground. Jewett in top position was able to connect with strikes but Walteres was doing a good job keeping Jewett close and countering with strikes. Jewett was able to pass the guard but Walteres got out and stood for a brief moment. Jewett once again took it to the ground and Walteres gave his back giving Jewett a rear naked choke attempt. Walteres was able to roll out and get a mount reversal. Walteres was able to land some strikes in top position but once again, Jewett was able to reverse the mount ending the round. Both fighters exchanged strikes to start off round two but once again took it to the ground - Jewett attempted an arm bar but Walteres got away. The referee stood them back up and after an exchange of strikes, they go to the ground. Walteres was able to get the arm under the neck for the rear naked choke and the win.
Fight 18 Brendan Magana wins by first round TKO over Jesee Vanderpool They touched gloves to start the round and Magana connected the first jab of the fight. After an exchange of punches, Magana was able to pick Vanderpool up from one side of the cage to the other and drop him hard. With Magana in full mount, Magana was able to connect with lots of punches. Vanderpool gave his back as he was turning to get up. Magana stayed on him and threw a series of punches to the side of his head. Vanderpool appeared to be out for a brief moment but looked to have snapped back after receiving another punch - The referee has seen enough and stopped the bout.
Fight 19 Fabian Diaz wins a two round unanimous decision over Steve Torres Diaz threw the first punch of the fight that was partially blocked - They took the fight to the ground where Torres was able to get out of a rear naked choke attempt. After an exchange of strikes, both got to their feet for a brief moment - Once again, Diaz is able to take Torres to the ground and get top position - Torres then is able to get to his feet and connect with an elbow - They tied up against the cage and Torres connected with short elbows to the side of the head of Diaz ending the round. Torres took the honors of throwing the first punch to start round two shortly before they went to the ground. Torres got top position and was able to connect with strikes. Diaz got back up and they tied up - this time, Diaz got the take down. Torres was able to get top position but Diaz reversed it and connected with some punches as well. They went back and forth with mount positions and Torres was able to go for an arm bar but was not successful. The round ended with both guys tied up on the ground.
Fight 20 Josh Hodges wins by submission (guillotine choke) at 2:12 of the first round over Bakari McClain They tied up immediately - McClain was unable to connect with any clean strikes and Hodges was unable to get the take down. The referee calls for time and warns McClain about a punch on the back of the head. The fight restarted and Hodges was able to get the take down. Hodges goes for the guillotine choke and succeeds - McClain tapped out.
Fight 21 Napoleon Lechuga wins by TKO at 2:33 of the first round over Allen Debillas They touched gloves and immediately exchanged strikes. Debillas was able to get the take down and while on top, Debillas connected to the face but Lechuga was able to get out and up. Lechuga came in with combo punches and stepped back - a more tired Debillas dropped his hands, allowing Lechuga to connect to the face. Lechuga’s punches do some damage and a left hook finishes the job. His left punch knocked Debillas down and referee steps in to stop the fight.
