June 28, 2008 Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino Las Vegas, Nevada
WBO Featherweight Title Bout (12 Rds) Steven Luevano (35-1-1, 15 KOs) and Mario Santiago (19-1-1, 14 KOs) battled to a draw - Judges scored the bout 117-111 Luevano, 115-113 Santiago, 114-114 Draw. Luevano retains title. In the second round, Luevano downed to a knee with a short left (up quickly). The fight resumed and Santiago was downed to a knee with a straight left (up quickly).
Heavyweight Bout (10 Rds) Monte Barrett (34-6, 20 KOs) wins by knockout at :57 of the first round over Tye Fields (41-2, 37 KOs) In the first round, Fields was hurt with a couple of rights and after a small flurry of punches, Fields went down from a right hook - Fields struggled to get up but the ref took a good look and stopped the bout.
WBC Super Featherweight Title Bout - interim (12 Rds) Francisco Lorenzo (33-4, 14 KOs) wins by disqualification over Humberto Soto (44-7-2, 28 KOs) In the fourth round, Lorenzo was against the ropes, taking a barrage of punches and went to his knees after being hit with a left (up at the count of seven). The fight resumed and at one point, Soto had Lorenzo against the ropes (in a corner) peppering him with punches when the ref stepped in to stop the bout...or that's what it looked like but inexplicably, the ref just separated them and the fight continued. Soto resumed his attack and a bloody Lorenzo went down on his own trying to avoid Soto's punches (Lorenzo went to his knees as Soto was in the process of throwing punches - left and right hook) - and on the replay, it looked like Soto's left grazed the back (top) of Lorenzo's head as the ref stepped in. Lorenzo just stayed on his knees, eventually sitting in the corner apparently hurt from the punch that looked like it grazed him as the ref called time due to what he called a late shot after Lorenzo was down. After some time and discussion, the ref (Joe Cortez) ruled that because Lorenzo was intentionally hit while down, Soto was disqualified.
WBC Lightweight Title Bout (12 Rds) Manny Pacquiao (47-3-2, 35 KOs) wins by TKO at 2:24 of the 9th round over David Diaz (34-2-1, 17 KOs) In the ninth round, Diaz downed with a left hook and the ref stepped in and stopped the bout. - Pacquiao wins title from Diaz.
