WBA Super Welterweight Title Bout (12 Rds)

Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KOs) wins by TKO at :42 of the ninth round over Yuri Foreman (28-1, 8 KOs) -

Cotto wins title from Foreman.  In the seventh round, Foreman's right knee just gave way while he was

moving side to side - he had to take a few minutes to try and compose himself. He gamely choose to

continue and after a brief exchange, went down again when he slipped on a wet part of the canvas (and you

could tell he was in pain from his right knee). The ref gave him a few moments to gather himself and he

continued on - although it was visible that he could not put a lot of pressure on his right knee. In the eighth

round, a towel came flying into the ring but the ref refused to recognize it - Foreman's corner then came into

the ring but the ref took charge and cleaned house from the ring and the fight continued. It was announced

the that towel did not come from Foreman's corner. In the ninth round, Cotto landed a left to the body that

sent Foreman to a knee and the ref quickly jumped in and stopped the bout. Gutsy performance by Foreman

who was clearly fighting with an injured right knee in the last three rounds.
