Countdown to Caged Vengeance 2
October 7, 2006 Gray’s Armory Cleveland, Ohio
- Special Thanks go out to Greg Kalikas (Gladiators Fighting Series, Prokarateweekly) for the following:
Wednesday, October 4th, 2006 (Cleveland, OH): We are less then four days from the return of Gladiators Fighting MMA to Cleveland. "Caged Vengeance 2" is set for this Saturday night, October 7th, 2006 at the historic Gray's Armory centrally located in downtown Cleveland, Ohio.
Headlining the main event is Ohio’s Josh “Heavy” Hendricks (14-4) who will be defending his Gladiators Fighting MMA Heavyweight belt for the first time since winning the title this past June in Cleveland. His opponent will be 2 time UFC veteran Geza Kalman (4-2) of Canada who returns to the cage with the hopes of putting his name back on the MMA map by beating a streaking Hendricks who hasn't tasted defeat in his last seven bouts.
Donnie Walker (6-3) will replace team mate Jason Dent and will face off with Erie, PA’s Dan “The Pennsylvania Hitman” Swift (27-19) for the vacant Gladiators Fighting MMA Lightweight title. After Dent recently agreed to terms with the UFC, the door opened for Walker to step in and make a name of his own in front of the home town fans. “Having the hometown crowd behind me gives me an unspoken advantage inside the cage, even if I am entering this fight as the underdog. Clevelanders tend to hate everything from Pennsylvania, which comes from the whole Browns-Steelers rivalry” said Walker on his hometown edge this weekend.
Replacing a medically suspended Thomas Russell, Team Higher Power’s Ron Hedges (4-1) will face the biggest test of his young career as he clashes with current Gladiators Middleweight Champion Mitch Whitesel. After defeating UFC veteran Adrian Serrano to capture the middleweight title this past June in Milwaukee, Whitesel (5-3) may be at the top of his game and hopes this will be the start of a long reign as king of the Gladiators middleweight division.
Kickboxing champion and World Combat League star Ryan “The Lion” Madigan will look for his second mixed martial arts win when he battles Wreckroon Athletics Chad Trukovich this weekend. After an impressive second round TKO win over Clint “The Haymaker” Zeedyk at Fight Nite in the Flats 2, Madigan will brings his hard hitting style of fighting to Cleveland for a scheduled three round war with Trukovich who is among the heaviest handed Gladiators in the welterweight class.
Fan favorite Jason “Freebird” Freeman (4-1) returns to the caged coliseum when he tangles with Hammer House slugger Justin Geesey (2-1) in a light heavyweight contenders bout. A former world tough man finalist with an amateur record of 77-5, Freeman has quickly garnered the attention of fellow Gladiators with the help of a ferocious right hand. When asked in a recent interview about current Gladiators Light Heavyweight Champion Rob Wince, Freman replied “He’s a tough competitor and I respect him as fighter. However, that’s my title, not his; and I’m coming to get it."
In another highly anticipated clash, unbeaten welterweight “Smokin'” Joe Heiland (4-0) will take on Rising Dragon's Frank Carabello (1-1) in what promises to be a slugfest as both fighters come in off impressive wins their last time in the cage.
