ESPN’s “The Contender” in association with Don Chargin Productions are excited to announce ESPN’s

Friday Night fights at ARCO Arena, Friday August 25, 2006.

In the 10 round Main Event, the winner of The Contender reality series’ first season, Sergio “The Latin

Snake” Mora, from Los Angeles, CA with a record of 18-0 and 4 KO’s will face Eric “The Hit Man” Regan,

from Sacramento, CA with a 26-2 record and 15 KO’s. Mora survived a second-round knockdown only to

stop Armenia’s Archak TerMeliksetian by way of TKO at 2:44 of the seventh round in his last outing on

May 4th.

Regan has won his last two fights by knockout. His most recent victory came on May 19th against

Mexico’s Elco Garcia in a 5 round knockout at the Feather Falls Casino. Regan holds the IBA Continental

Middleweight title, which he won in 2003.

According to Matchmaker and veteran promoter Don Chargin, “Bringing together “the Contender” champion

and the IBA Continental Middleweight Champ will prove to be an exciting battle. Both fighters are stepping

into the ring with strong records, but both pose different challenges as fighters. Sergio has to get through

6’4” of Regan, battling a 4” height difference, but Sergio has proved himself to be a strong and consistent

fighter. These boys are fighting to maintain their belts.”

Boxing World Champion and The Contender Series Host, Sugar Ray Leonard, commented on the

upcoming bout. “Sergio continues to successfully step up to challenges put in front of him. This will be a

battle of two champions both trying to maintain their title, while also proving who’s the stronger opponent.

While I support Eric Regan, I’m sure that Sergio will once again bring pride to the Contender name.”

The August 25 fight at ARCO Arena will also feature Alfonso Gomez, a true fan favorite from the first

season of The Contender. Alfonso finished third in The Contender tournament. Since then, Alfonso has

fought twice with his most recent fight on May 4th ending in a draw against Jesse Feliciano.
