ESPN2 Friday Night Fights Results Nate Campbell vs. Isaac Hlatshwayo
April 7, 2006 Florida State Fairgrounds Entertainment Hall Tampa, Florida
Light Heavyweight Bout (4 Rds) Akinyemi Laleye (4-0, 1 KO) wins a unanimous decision over William Santiago (4-2-1, 1 KO) - Judges scored the bout 39-37, 40-36, 40-36 for Laleye
Jr. Welterweight Bout (6 Rds) Marcus Broadnax (3-1-1-1NC, 2 KOs) vs. Derrick Samuels (6-2-1-1NC, 1 KO) ended in a no-contest at 2:49 of the fourth round. In the fourth round, both men were coming in with body punches and leading with their head - they collided heads which put Samuels down on one knee - it was a pretty hard clash of heads - the ref stopped the bout so the doctor could check Samuels - Samuels broke his nose - Doctor stopped the bout - the clash of heads was ruled accidental. Because the fourth round had not ended, bout was ruled a no-contest (explanation given by the ring announcer).
IBF Lightweight Title Eliminator Bout \ IBO Lightweight Title Bout (12 Rds) Isaac Hlatshwayo (25-0, 9 KOs) wins a split decision over Nate Campbell (28-5-1, 24 KOs) - Judges scored the bout 115-113 Campbell, 116-112 Hlatshwayo, 117-111 Hlatshwayo - Hlatshwayo wins IBO title - Side note: after the last score was read, Campbell thought he won the fight and started to celebrate when he
heard "and new IBO champion"
even though it was Hlatshwayo's name being read and not Campbell.
