This past Wednesday night, we had the honor of attending a benefit at the De La O Jiu-Jitsu Training Center

in Stanton, California. It was a special night to help raise money for one of of our martial arts brethren,

Illiums Goglia, who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. If you've never met Illiums, he is the

type of person that you just like right away and who represents the sport extremely well - humble and low

key with an incredible fighting spirit which we've had the pleasure of witnessing first hand at local pankration

tournaments - as well as when he made the transition into the cage at KOTC (representing Team De La O

very well).

The night started off with De La O Jiu-Jitsu Training Center owner and MMA veteran John De la O

presenting a few awards to two of his outstanding students, Oscar and "Ghetto" Joe - and in-between the

award presentations, drawings were held for a few prizes that were used to help raise money - two of which

were really cool gift baskets donated by Nunya fight wear (Props to Nunya fight wear owners Brandon and

Michelle Kruse).

John De La O then introduced KOTC stand out and De La O team member Tom Kenney, who presented

Illiums with a plaque depicting many of his hard earned wins in competitions. Illiums addressed the standing-

room only crowd in his humble and low key manner and expressed his great appreciation for all in

attendance. He went on to say that the cancer didn't bring its "A" game and that he will come out victorious

to which the crowd responded with roaring applause. John then presented Illiums with a bag full of money

(uncounted) to use towards his medical bills.

The benefit then switched gears and the crowd was treated to five great match-ups - The first bout of the

night was a pro-wrestling match between the masked ones, King Favi & El Maestro against FOOB &

Viper. This match was a throw-back for us here at thefightgame.tv as it reminded us of the Lucha Libre

matches we use to attend as kids while we visited Mexico - These guys were hilarious but extremely

talented and put on one hell of a show. The flying acrobatics were quite impressive including the frog splash

which ended the match in favor of FOOB and Viper.

The next bout saw Jason Morris and Jerry Noche go at it for two rounds in submission grappling. Neither

could quite get the advantage with the match ending in a draw.

Next, two amateur boxing matches were on tap - Mark Lehner and Ron Scolesdane battled for three

rounds like it was the final fight in the Olympics and the gold medal was on the line. Both fighters gave

as good as they got - and rightfully so, the bout ended in a draw. Next up, Juan Villegas and Ernie

La Madrid went three hard rounds with the outcome also resulting in a draw.

And the final bout was an open weight kickboxing bout between Chris Lessard and Joe Herreira - these

two guys also went three hard rounds with the result - a draw.

Without a doubt, the benefit was a success - and we here at thefightgame.tv wish nothing but the best for

Illiums. If you would like to show your support for Illiums, please contact De la O Jiu-Jistu at: Phone: (714)
