OUTSIDE THE SQUARED CIRCLE

"When I am wrong, I am wrong"

So there went my theory that Vaughn Bean was going to demolish the aged Larry Holmes.

In fact, after watching all the blubber that is "Butterbean" rumble across the ring in the Pay-Per-View fight, it

appeared that Larry Holmes was the younger, if not more talented of opponents in this fight.

Perhaps it was not that Mr. Holmes was more skilled (even at this advanced stage) but more so that Bean

was just plain fat and unable to do anything with a man who once would have made "fruit salad" of such an

opponent.

I am not saying that Lennox Lewis or even John Ruiz should start shaking in their boots, but with all the...

controversy that has surrounded the Heavyweight Division over the past few years, at least this bout was

not scored a draw or some bizarre disqualification due to cannibalism or low blows.

Mike Tyson wants to have a rematch with the Champion (Lewis) who should hold all three belts but after his

poor showing in their first match, maybe he should give Larry Holmes a rematch.

After all, the first time they fought, at least it was somewhat competitive. Mike Tyson did not even look like

he had a pulse when he last fought Lewis. Larry Holmes may be older that dirt but at least he threw more

punches against Bean than Tyson threw against Lewis.

Who the heck is Lewis kidding? He wants thirty million to dance around with a "has been" Tyson again?

Maybe they should bring other aged Heavyweights out of retirement, at least they seem more hungry than

Tyson (who by the way did not get enough to eat with Holyfield's ear).

In any case, the only other fight that still seems to hold some semblance of mystique is the Oscar De La

Hoya and Vargas fight in September.

Okay, maybe it is not as compelling as Bush versus Gore II in two years but at least they both pretend to

want to beat each other up. Maybe we can look forward to Janet Reno and Martha Stewart in some celebrity

match down the road but I yawn every time I hear about another boring fight coming down the pipe.

I would much rather go down to a local dojo and watch some hungry young Martial Artists than sit in my

comfy chair and pay fifty dollars to see some supposed "boxers" dance around in the ring long enough to

collect their million dollar paychecks.

Oh well, that's just my view.

On a more somber note, I would like to offer my condolences to the Hearn family in Los Angeles for their

loss of Hall of Fame broadcaster "Chick" Hearn.

Although Chick was more widely recognized for his work in professional basketball as the voice of the Los

Angeles Lakers, I still remember his throaty broadcast of the first Ali and Frazier fight.

Chick Hearn also was a staple in the announcing seats at hundreds of local boxing events in Los Angeles.

This man was one of the Greatest. Like the incomparable Howard Cosell, Chick Hearn was a multi-talented

announcer who brought a certain flair and life to his broadcasts. I and millions of others that remember his

voice and style as being one in a million will sorely miss him.

In closing, I would just like to state for the record, that although several UFC fights have now been thrown

together on other networks, it is still the people here at The FightGame.tv  who brought the first fight to the

mainstream audience. We will continue to insult and upset the big boys out there until all our fans get the

attention of the corporate giants as to who the real authority is on Mixed Martial Arts and a down-to-earth

style of boxing news.

Until that is realized, keep on visiting us here and "Keep on Fighting."
