OUTSIDE THE SQUARED CIRCLE

By Daniel L. Diaz

Today we will talk about two subjects:

  1. •  Tyson versus Lewis

  2. •  The Best Damn Sports Show Anywhere and the fact they are going to show an ultimate fighting

  3.    match on cable TV

In case you were on a desert island or off the planet, there was a big fight on Saturday June 8th, between

Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson. In not such kind terms, Mike Tyson was clearly overmatched and

outclassed in this fight.  I can see an overwhelming desire for Mike Tyson to feel he needed to regain the

respect of the boxing community by fighting a quality opponent, but to step into the ring with the very best

boxer in the world was "ludicrous." I cannot imagine he would make so foolish an error in judgment in the

near future. After the vicious knockout lay upon him by the superior boxer and true champion, Lennox Lewis,

I would think Tyson would finally get the hint and hang up his gloves. I do not know if all the boxing fans

were able to witness the mismatch of Biblical proportions, but Tyson looked like he was trying to just survive

against the bigger Lewis instead of fighting against him.

I have to admit, Lewis is taller, longer and has a decided skill advantage, but Mike Tyson looked dead out

there. At times he even seemed scared. The way Tyson fought in this match, I seriously doubt if David

Spade would feel intimidated to step into a ring with Tyson. In any case, Lennox Lewis showed he could box

and punch all in the same fight. He showed no fear against a formerly dangerous fighter and in doing so,

quickly and I think, forever, quieted the critics about his heart in the ring. In this past fight, Lennox Lewis

showed his heart in the ring, while Mike Tyson may have left what heart he had left on the canvas after the

eighth round knockout.

In the arena of Martial Arts and Ultimate Fighting-type events, the Fox Sports Network has a show called

"The Best Damn Sports Show," with the likes of Tom Arnold and John Salley, and it is a "guy" show. Well,

(they say) for the first time, without Pay-Per View, these guys are going to show a fight in the tradition of the

King of the Cage or similar genre (On cable which we at TheFightGame.tv did  about two years ago), and it

will be coming soon . I am not sure as to the date, but I will update all you fans of this growing and exciting

sport. It will be nice to see it on a show that is not so skittish about this form of real and hard fighting. I

personally find this to be a very grueling and down-and-dirty kind of fighting that one would only find in a

good Jean Claude Van Damme movie. Maybe it does not appeal to all fans, but here at THE FIGHT GAME,

it is all about every type of fighting. Heck, maybe I'll do a story on Hockey one of these days.

In closing, I want to thank all the fans out there for enduring my bantering and ranting about the Tyson fight.

If you don't like him then you're happy he lost. If you do, well, better luck next time.
