Chute Boxe USA Video Interviews
This past Tuesday (August 16th), we had the pleasure of visiting the world renouned Beverly Hills Jiu-Jitsu Club (BHJJC) in Los Angeles, California. BHJJC, owned by 4th degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Marcus Vinicius, is home to Chute Boxe USA and Coach Roberto Piccinini.
The first thing that you'll notice when you enter the school is the friendly greeting by a student or instructor - They make you feel right at home from the moment you step through the door. We were greeted by Chute Boxe USA team member George Meng - Mr. Meng showed us around and introduced us to Coach Piccinini and fellow team member Jorge "Van Damme" Oliveira. Coach Piccinini has trained such outstanding fighters as PRIDE Champion Wanderlei Silva, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Murilo "Ninja" Rua. Oliveira is coming off a win over UFC veteran Shonie Carter earlier this year at the WEC and recently passed the K-1 trials.
After getting acquainted with everyone, we then got to witness the 12:30pm class workout. It was a pretty good turn-out considering the day of the week, not to mention the time. But as Coach Piccinini started to address the class in preparation for the warm-ups and Muay Thai drills, it was easy to see why everyone showed up.
Coach Piccinini has a presence about him - Very respectful to the students, yet authoritative - you listen intently as he speaks and you quickly realize why Chute Boxe is one of the Best Fight Teams, arguably the Best Fight Team, in the world. His instruction is straight forward yet easy to understand. He explains the technique and why the technique is important - and what can happen if the technique is not properly executed. As the warm-ups were well underway, Coach Piccinini then started to pair-up the students in preparation for the Muay Thai drills - He demonstrated what he wanted done and the students started to practice it. This is where part of our team went from observer to participant - Our very own Al decided to jump in and work out with the guys in his street clothes after an invitation to practice from Coach Piccinini. For the next hour and change, Coach Piccinini had the students work kicks to the body, knees to the body & head, jumping knees, boxing and boxing with takedowns - All under his watchful eye.
As Coach Piccinini walked around the class observing everyone, he offered suggestions to his students to better help them understand the philosophy behind the technique - and he answered their questions if they were having problems. Al stated "I wish we could have gone longer cause it's been a while since I've had the opportunity to do stand-up like this...Coach Piccinini's instruction was Great."
As an observer and participant, we can tell you that the instruction at Chute Boxe USA is effective and is what you would come to expect from the world famous fight team. To sum it up in two words - World Class.
As the workout came to a close, Coach Piccinini had the class line-up and thanked them for a great workout. He then ended the session with a traditional Mauy Thai bow and so ended a great afternoon.
We were then fortunate that Coach Piccinini and Mr. Oliveira consented to video interviews (plus we were able to interview Master Vinicius before the class started) - You can find the interviews here.
