Daniel “Denzil” Thomas Added To Cage Warriors USA: Unleashed This Saturday August 23, 2008 UCF Arena Orlando, Florida
- Special Thanks go out to Ian Dean and Cagewarriors.com for the following information:
Cage Warriors UK veteran Daniel "Denzil" Thomas has been added to the second Cage Warriors USA event this Saturday at the UCF Arena in Orlando, Florida. Thomas will face the ATT fighter Glenn Mincer in a 160lbs catchweight bout at Cage Warriors USA: Unleashed.
Daniel Thomas is best known for being a rugged, durable Welsh brawler who has fought some of the best names in the European 70kg/155lbs division over the last two years. Thomas has travelled around the UK and has earned himself a reputation for being a true warrior who doesn't back down from a challenge and has been the saviour of many shows, often stepping in at late notice to fight.
Due to his enthusiasm Thomas soon racked-up a staggering 10 professional MMA bouts in just six months and at one time sported an impressive 7-1 record. Despite often stepping-in at the last moment “Denzil's” record has several impressive European names on it inlcuding wins over the Shooto Japan veteran Antanas Jazbutis, the unorthodox Cage Rage veteran; Sami Berik and the Cage Wars fighter; Peter “Slam” Duncan
Thomas has also dipped his toes in the Kickboxing circuit and holds an impressive decision victory against the highly regarded Essex based Muay Thai specialist Jay Woodham earlier this year (in a bout he took on just 2 days notice). “Denzil” surprised onlookers by attacking the more refined striker and taking numerous counter shots before his bulldog tactics did enough to earn him the win.
Currently on a four bout win streak (two of which are MMA wins) Thomas has most recently stopped the Muay Thai specialist Stuart Davis at UWC 7 in May, before ending the three bout win streak of the Irishman Peter Duncan, who Thomas defeated with a Guillotine choke earlier this month.
After his last win just two weeks ago, the former Bus Driver flew out to the H.I.T Squad to train at the camp set-up by former UFC Champion Matt Hughes. Whilst he was out there Thomas received a last minute call- up from the Cage Warriors USA Promoter Tommy Gleeson to fight on the Cage Warriors USA show. Now Daniel Thomas hopes to emulate Greg Loughran's stunning performance back in March at the inaugural CW USA, by defeating US opposition on late notice.
Thomas' opponent will be Glenn Mincer from Port Lucie, Florida. Mincer is a member of the world famous American Top Team and sports a 4-3 pro record. This 26 year old has fought infrequently in the past but holds a win over EliteXC veteran and main event fighter Mikey Gomez at 170lbs. Known for his striking and tough tactics, the Floridian will pose a strong threat to Thomas who is moving up in weight for this late notice fight.
However Thomas is relishing the challenge and is looking forward to surprising the American when they meet this weekend and go back to his training camp with a win.
