The first half of an exciting double main event has been announced for Cage Warriors: Enter the Rough House on December 9th as UK MMA Star Paul “Semtex” Daley returns to Cage Warriors to face Pride veteran David Baron.
Warrior Promotions are pleased to announce the first half of an exciting double main event for their first Cage Warriors: Enter the Rough House show on December 9th at the Harvey Haddon Sports Centre in Nottingham. As the first confirmed match-up will see the FX3 World and Cage Rage British Welterweight Champion Paul “Semtex” Daley take on the European Shooto Middleweight Champion, 2h2h: Road to Japan winner and Pride Bushido veteran David Baron in an under 73kg bout over 3x 5 minute rounds.
Paul Daley vs. David Baron
Paul “Semtex” Daley (11-5-2) returns to Cage Warriors for the first time in nearly two years since his controversial draw against Abdul Mohamed at Cage Warriors 9: Xtreme Xmas in December 2004 at the Octagon Centre, Sheffield . Since then Daley has been 6-3-1 in MMA competition and has found success at Cage Rage and FX 3 defeating the likes of Sami Berik, Peter Angerer, Joey Van Wanrooy, Dave Strasser and Ross Mason - winning both the Cage Rage British and FX 3 World Titles in the process.
Currently rated at number one in the unofficial UK MMA Welterweight Rankings, Daley has also made an impression outside the UK which has led him to fight on such shows as Brawl at the Mall 2 (which was billed as a Pride Amateur event), SportFight 11: Rumble at the Rose Garden and lastly Pancrase: Blow Tour on August 27th where he lost to the experienced Satoru Kitaoka in Japan. Daley will be looking to make a big impression when he fights in front of his home town fans against one of Europe’s best fighters on December 9th, knowing that a victory against the Frenchman could propel him back to Japan and a possible big money fight.
However, David Baron (10-2-0) will pose a stern test for Daley and will look to counter Daley’s explosive power with his slick ground game which has already seen him rack up numerous wins by submission and led to the Frenchman defeating Daley’s team mate Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy on two separate occasions.
Baron, who originally emerged from the European Shooto circuit, traveled around Europe gaining eight straight wins (most notably against Stale Nyang (EVT 4), Sauli Heilimo (Shooto Sweden), Dan Hardy (CW Strike Force 1) and Erik Oganov (M-1) before losing a decision against the supremely talented Swedish fighter Per Eklund at European Vale Tudo 6 last year.
Since then, Baron bounced back in style by winning the 2H2H: Road to Japan -73kg Tournament, where he defeated Dan Hardy (again) by decision and forced the local favorite Joey Van Wanrooy to tap via strikes in the final. That tournament win earned Baron a spot in Pride where he faced the Pride Lightweight Champion Takanori Gomi in a non title bout. Although this was a huge step up for the Frenchman, Baron fought valiantly and impressed many observers before submitting to a rear naked choke after 7:10 of the first round.
Now Baron returns to Cage Warriors and will be eager to prevent his stock from falling, whilst looking to increase his chances to return to Pride by destroying Daley’s future plans when they clash in front of Daley’s home town support on December 9th.
The second half of the double main event will be announced soon but will feature Nottingham ’s own Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy, who is fresh from a first round stoppage win over Danny Rushton at CW Showdown 1. This show will also feature more Rough House fighters such as the 2H 2H Road to Japan 83kg winner Jim Wallhead (8-3-0) and the unbeaten Lightweight Andre Winner who won on his CW debut last weekend. Cage Warriors also hope to announce several other European stars for what should be a great start for this new CW brand in Nottingham on December 9th.
