Cage of Honor "Fighting for Life" was held this past Saturday night with over 40 sponsors for this show as it

was a co-promotion with the U.S. Marines Toys For Tots program - It looked like just about everyone brought

a toy. During the event, Drew "The Animal" Reed was presented a trophy by the owners of Cage of Honor

as Reed is turning pro and will no longer fight in Cage of Honor. As always, all the fights were amateur bouts

and were three rounds (three minutes each round) except the title bouts which were four minutes each

round.

Fight 1

Daniel Chavez wins by submission (rear naked choke) at 2:18 of the first round over Brandon Garza

Daniel Chavez - 155 lbs, now 2-1 of Waynesville, Missouri defeated Brandon Garza - 154 lbs, now 0-2, of

Joplin, Missouri by first round rear naked choke. They started out with some nice stand-up action until they

hit the ground with Garza in top mount - but the referee eventually stood them up. Chavez then took Garza

down, getting his back and after sinking in his hooks, he won with the rear naked choke.

Fight 2

James Lucas wins by TKO (towel) at :54 of the first round over Robert Frye

James "The Postman" Lucas (6' 0") - 238 lbs, now 1-0, of Berryville, Arkansas defeated Robert Frye (6' 3") -

212 lbs, now 2-1, of Phenix City, Alabama in the first round by TKO due to strikes. Frye came running in

and put Lucas down to the mat with a right hand - The referee looked like he was going to stop the fight as

he moved in between the two fighters but then allowed Lucas to stand up and the fight was back on. Lucas

then rushed Frye and dropped him with multiple punches - He took full mount and it was over - corner threw

in the towel.

Fight 3

Brian Pearman wins a unanimous decision over JT Smith

Brian Pearman - 145 lbs, now 1-1, of the Springfield Fight Club defeated JT Smith - 145 lbs, now 0-1, of

Ironton, Missouri by unanimous decision with scores of 30-27, 30-27, 30-27. It started out with Pearman

slamming Smith to the mat but he was reversed before they stood back up where Smith was taken down

again (Pearman is a Gracie Barra trained fighter). Smith was attempting a knee bar from the bottom but paid

the price for it by taking some hard punches. Smith was slammed to the mat for a third time to end the first

round. In the second round, Pearman started with kicks before he was able to bully Smith against the cage.

A stand up war then erupted with Pearman getting the better of the exchanges. On the ground, Pearman

was nailing him with punches but Smith was still very alive, almost getting an arm bar from his back - A

great round. The third round saw Smith hit Pearman with a great punch and a big knee before being taken

down. Pearman started raining down punches and for some reason, the referee stood them back up. Smith

hit a jumping knee before he was once again taken down to end the fight. Smith looked great in his first fight

with his submission attempts and aggressive style. Pearman has a great chin and an awesome ability to

take the fight to the mat.

compared to kickboxer Plank who is 6' 2". Kaltved tried to take Plank down but was hit with punches and

kicks. The match quickly hit the mat and Plank secured the arm bar. It looked like the referee didn't even

call the end to the fight as Plank just let go.

Josh Ruckman (6' 2") - 183 lbs, now 2-0, of Carthage, Missouri defeated Caleb Scott (5' 11") - 181 lbs, now

took him down. Not much was happening but Scott did land some good blows while Ruckman tried for the

triangle from his back. Eventually Ruckman gained control after going for an ankle lock as the round ended.

In round two, Ruckman landed a big knee before Scott took him down again. Ruckman secured the triangle

from his back for the win. This was a very good fight with Ruckman looking great.

Alan Johnson - 169 lbs, now 2-0, of Cushing, Oklahoma (with Cimarron Jiu Jitsu Club) defeated Jeremy

Harris - 166 lbs, now 2-2, of the Springfield Fight Club by unanimous decision. Johnson shot in pressing

Harris against the cage - They split up and the crowd was chanting "Harris." Johnson tried a double leg again

but was unsuccessful. A time out had to be taken as Johnson kneed Harris squarely on the cup. They both

seemed very tentative and not much happened in the round. To start the second round,  Harris landed some

great right kicks as Johnson still tried for the takedown. Johnson eventually took Harris to the ground but he

wasn't able to do much as Harris has an excellent defense from his back. Harris had Johnson in a sick

looking ankle lock to end the round as Johnson was trying for his own hold. Both men looked tired in the

third round and not much happened - At one point, Harris tried a spinning back fist before Johnson took him

down. On the mat, Harris was able to neutralize Johnson with his defensive skills. The end of the match

came as Johnson was trying to get a standing ankle lock.

Brandon Hawkins - 185 lbs, now 5-1, of Little Rock, Arkansas defeated Tony Key - 183 lbs, now 2-2, of

throwing punches before getting Stuebner on the ground. On the ground, Stuebner was going for submission

29-28, 29-28, 29-28. This was a very close fight that was very good fight. Rainey took him down quickly

getting Borden's back. Borden showed excellent skills as he fought it off with superior hand control while

Rainey had the body triangle locked on. In the second round, Borden shot in but Rainey just pounded him

with body blows. They tried to beat each other with submissions but their skills matched up so well they

couldn't do much. The crowd was very vocal during this fight.

Hank Dooley wins a unanimous decision over Brandon Thomure

Hank Dooley (6' 5") - 221 lbs, now 3-0, of Cimarron Jiu Jitsu in Cushing, Oklahoma won the championship

defeating Brandon "The Business" Thomure (6' 2") - 229 lbs, now 4-1, of Quincy, Illinois by unanimous

decision. The first round was the most exciting with both men throwing bombs. These guys are huge and at

one point, Dooley bullied Thomure into the cage with such force that the entire lighting setup almost came

crashing down. Dooley was nailing Thomure with some major shots but Thomure never backed down. The

action slowed down in the second and third. Thomure was landing leg kicks as Dooley was landing punches.

They came alive to start the third. Thomure landed some good punches and knees but Dooley just kept

coming towards him. Thomure landed a heavy combo at one point but Dooley just smiled showing his great

chin.
