Cage Combat Fighting Championships crowned two new champions Saturday night at the San Mateo

Fairgrounds. In the night’s co-main event, Oakdale MMA fighter Rolando Velasco took the fight to local fan

favorite DarrenBCUyenoyama for three solid rounds to earn the vacant Bantamweight Championship. It

was Velasco’s superior wrestling that allowed him to keep the fight on the feet for most of the fight where we

got the better of Uyenoyama with his striking. In the first round Velasco nearly ended the fight with a

highlight reel slam which saw Uyenoyama hoisted above Velasco’s head before crashing to the mat.

Uyenoyama weathered the devastating slam and grinded out the remainder of the fight. Velasco wins the

fight via unanimous decision and with the win becomes the first Bantamweight Champion in Cage Combat

Fighting Championships history.

In the night’s Main Event James Terry kept his undefeated streak alive running his record to a perfect 5-0 in

a very close fight against Josh Hinkle. The fight was a back and forth affair with both fighters landing their

share of strikes and engaging in multiple scrambles and submission attempts on the mat. In the early going

it appeared as if Hinkle was getting the better of Terry in both the striking and wrestling departments, but as

the fight wore on it appeared as if Terry’s confidence grew as he began to land more power shots and was

able to control the pace of the fight when it went to the ground. According to the judges at ringside it was

Terry who earned the win via split decision to become the first ever Cage Combat Fighting Championships

Welterweight Champion. The official decision announcement was met with mixed reactions from the crowd

and it appears as if we could see a rematch between these two fighters somewhere down the line.
