Friday Night Boxing at the Legendary Blue Horizon Results
October 13, 2006 The Legendary Blue Horizon Philadelphia, PA
- Special Thanks go out to Anthony J. Sullivan for the following recap \ results:
"Friday Night Boxing at the Legendary Blue Horizon" presented by Blue Horizon Boxing Promotions, Inc. (Promoter - Vernoca L. Michael) drew an estimated 500 (maybe a little more) fans this past Friday night. Notables in attendance included former heavyweight champion Tim Witherspoon and cruiserweight title contender Steve Cunningham. The referees were the famous Art Bayles and Eddie Cotton. A great night of fights.
Fight 1 - Heavyweight Exhibition Match (3 rounds at 2 minutes each) - Headgear and all. Eduard Daznovich wins over Curry Winfield The 242 lb. Eduard Daznovich of Belarus, Russia was declared the winner (no scores read of any kind) over the 266 lb. Curry Winfield of Winston Salem, NC. Both were very sloppy but Daznovich was the better puncher with the heavier punches. Winfield wasn't exactly showing off skill as he held a lot and threw his opponent physically around.
Fight 2 - Lightweight Bout (4 Rds) Bryheim Douglas wins a unanimous decision over Robert Ganaway The 136 lb. Bryheim Douglas of Philly won his pro debut (he was a huge crowd favorite) over the 135.5 lb. Robert Ganaway of Wilson, NC who now falls to 0-6. Ganaway looked like his record indicated as he held his hands down and was hit with many shots. He also boxed like a street fighter. Ganaway was knocked down in round two and twice in round four. He was actually knocked threw the ropes in the fourth but it was
at the end of the round so it
went to the cards. Douglas won with scores of 40-34, 40-34, 40-34. Michael Rhodes wins a split decision over Samuel Brown 30 year old, 342.5 lb. Michael Rhodes of Philadelphia took his record to 3-0-3, 1 KO by winning a split decision with scores of 39-37, 39-27, 36-40 against "Showtime" Samuel Brown of Ft Campbell, KY who weighed 233 lbs. is now 1-1. Brown was confused with the bullying tactics of Rhodes and it cost him the match. This was a very fun fight to watch. It was announced afterward that Sam Brown is an Army staff Sergeant who has already served two tours in Iraq and is leaving for his third tour soon.
Fight 4 - Cruiserweight Bout (4 Rds) Ran Nakash wins a unanimous decision over Gary Lavender The 201 lb. Ran Nakash of Haifa, Israel moved his pro record to 3-0, 2 KOs by beating the 198 lb. Gary Lavender (31 years old) who is now 2-7, 1 KO who hails from Pinelevel, NC - Nakash won a unanimous decision with scores of 40-35, 40-35 and 39-36. Lavender was knocked down at the end of the first round. This was an evenly matched fight and Nakash looks to be one to watch in the future.
Fight 5 - Middleweight Bout (4 Rds) Dave Peterson wins by second round knockout over Kenneth Meeks "The Teenage Phenom" Dave Peterson of Mounds View, MN took his pro record to 6-0, 5 KOs with a second round knockout at 1:12 against the 32 year old Kenneth Meeks of Sharpsburg, NC who is now 1-1, 1 KO. Peterson is 20 years old and is one to watch.
Fight 6 - Heavyweight Bout (6 Rds) Joey Abell wins by fourth round TKO over Louis Monaco "Minnesota Ice" Joey Abell, a 249 lb. southpaw, took his record to 9-0, 9 KOs with a fourth round TKO at 0:30 against the 211.5 lb. Louis Monaco who falls to 15-34-4, 7 KOs. This was a huge test for Abell as Monaco is better then his record indicates and Abell looked golden. Monaco is famous for a fight against Buster Douglas on May 13, 1997 when Douglas was in comeback mode and Monaco lost by first round disqualification when he hit Douglas after the bell rang, knocking him out on national television. Louis was the first opponent to make it past the second round against Abell. Abell will make it if he continues to win
and look impressive.
