Davis persevered, and entered this fight with Merola having won his previous five bouts.

"Basically, Garett wasn't training the right way," recalls Soares. "He was inexperienced and didn't know how

to prepare himself properly. He moved from Newfoundland to train with me in Vancouver, and I could see he

had talent. So, we worked on his cardio and practiced Jiu-Jitsu three times a week, while Tony Pep helped

him improve his boxing skills. All that work has paid off. Garett has become a disciplined, more well-rounded

fighter."
