Fight 1 - Middleweight Bout

Lee Murray (9-1-1) wins by  submission (triangle/arm bar) at 1:45 of the first round over Jorge Rivera (7-2)

 

Fight 2 - Heavyweight Bout

Frank Mir (7-1) wins by TKO (ref stoppage) at 4:21 of the second round over Wes Sims (6-3-1)

 

First Round - Both come out - Mir calmed and relaxed, Sims ready for action - Mir gets double leg and

slammed Sims - Mir mounts - Simms punching from bottom  - Mir's in side mount - Mir again mounts - Mir

gets back - Mir spreads him open - Mir punching - Sims tries to roll out - Mir back to mount - Mir going for

arm triangle from mount - Sims lifting up thumb to say okay - Mir pulls out and starts punching - Mir

delivering a couple of elbows to the mid-section and face - Sims bleeding from right eye from elbows - Mir

delivers straight right elbow to Sims face - Mir landing with elbows and the bell rings with Mir on top

 

Second Round - Sims straight front kick to Mir's belly - Clinch - Mir slams Sims again - Mir lands in closed

guard - both exchanging punches - Ref McCarthy stands them back up - Mir pushes Sims against the cage

- Sims delivers a couple a knees to Mir - Both crotch down to their knees - Mir pushes Sims back down and

Sims is in the full guard - Both exchanging punches - Mir looks tired but still throwing elbows - Ref stands

them up - Mir lands two knees to the face and then a right and a left punch that sends Sims down and out

as the Ref jumps in to stop the fight - Mir by TKO - Sims composes himself and goes over and

congratulates Mir and raises his hand 

 

 

Fight 3 - Welterweight Title Bout BJ Penn went to Team Quest to train for this fight

BJ Penn (7-1-1) wins by submission (rear naked choke) at 4:39 of the first round over Matt Hughes (30-1)  -

BJ Penn becomes new UFC welterweight champion

 

First Round - Both come out - Left jab by Hughes - they clinch - BJ pulls out - Quick left from Hughes -

Hughes goes to his back in open guard - BJ gets the back - Hughes going for a foot lock - BJ pulls out -

Hughes delivers a couple of punches to BJ's face while on his back - BJ tries for the side mount - Hughes

stops him - Hughes delivers a right to BJ's face - BJ delivers right to the face of Hughes - BJ struggles for

the side mount - BJ gets the side mount - Hughes puts him back in the half-guard - BJ comes down with a

straight right - BJ mounts -Hughes tries to counter -  BJ gets Hughes back - BJ gets rear naked choke and

Hughes Taps - Penn wins by submission

- BJ Penn is emotional as his name is read as the new champion

 

Fight 4 - Welterweight Bout

Renato Verissimo (5-0) wins by three round unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) over Carlos

Newton (13-8)   

 

First Round - Both come out and clinch - Newton takes him down but they get right back up - still in the

clinch - Newton takes Verissimo down again - Verissimo lands in full guard - Verissimo going for an arm bar

- Newton defends attempt - Verissimo again goes for an arm bar - Verissimo has him in like a triangle and

lands some punches to the face of Newton - Newton escapes and back in guard - Verissimo sweeps

Newton and lands in mount - Verissimo turns him around and now has Newton's back - Verissimo

stretches out Newton - once again Verissimo stretches out Newton delivers punches to the side of Newton's

face - Newton tries to roll out but can't - Newton tries to pull up and both are sitting as the bell rings with

Verissimo on his back.

 

Second Round - Both come out - Newton lands a left hook and clinches - Newton tries to take Verissimo

down but Verissimo defends well and lands on top (half-guard) - Verissimo lands a right and a left in

half-guard - Verissimo landing short punches (scoring) from the half-guard - Verissimo tries to mount -

Mounts - goes to the side mount -  Verissimo gets a couple of punches in on Newton's face - Verissimo on

the side mount - Newton pulls him back to full-guard - Verissimo lands a straight right and ref stands them

up - they clinch - Verissimo lands a knee to Newton's face - Newton tries to take Verissimo down but

Verissimo reverses and lands on top - Verissimo passes and goes to the side-mount - Verissimo gets the

full mount - Verissimo sits up and punches - Verissimo gets Newton's back - Bell rings (Verissimo in full

control of the fight - Newton is frustrated - unable to mount an offense)

 

Third Round - They come out and exchange a couple of blows - Verissimo lands a straight right and almost

knocks out Newton - Newton composes himself and they clinch - Verissimo takes Newton down and

Newton has the guard - Verissimo has Newton against the cage - Verissimo delivering short scoring

punches - ref stands them up - Verissimo delivers a right kick that lands as Newton was bending over and

hits him half in the face and leg - Newton finally able to take Verissimo  down and lands in side-mount -

Verissimo stands up and they clinch - Verissimo takes Newton down with a sweep - Newton tries to hold

Verissimo in half-guard - Verissimo delivering punches to Newton's face - Newton looks to be just trying to

survive - Bell rings - the fight goes to the score card

 

- Verissimo is BJ Penn's Jiu-Jitsu instructor

 

Fight 5 - Light Heavyweight Title Bout - Five Rounds

Vitor Belfort (11-3) wins by first round TKO (Doc stoppage) over Randy “The Natural” Couture (12-5) -

Belfort becomes new champion

 

First Round -  Both come out and touch gloves - Both look focused and relaxed - Something happened to

Couture's eye - Couture's eye is bleeding from the inside - Doctor checking the eye - Fight stopped - As

Couture clinched, Vitor threw a left punch that grazed the left eye of Couture - Eye started to bleed - Waiting

for official announcement - Couture eye is swollen shut - eye looks bad - Vitor looks sad for what happened

- Injury is to the inside of the bottom eye lid (tore it open)  - Vitor awarded the victory

 

- Couture comes and shakes Vitor's hands

- Couture says he'll be back

- Vitor doesn't seem happy about the way he won the fight - Shows a lot of concern for Couture

- Doctor says Couture needs immediate medical attention (surgery) to the eye to make sure he doesn't 

  suffer permanent damage (Surgery went well and Couture is expected to make a full recovery)
