Johnny Tapia Recovering

How much bad luck can a person have?

After losing a 12 round decision to Marco Antonio Barrera in November of last year. After undergoing surgery on his left shoulder shortly thereafter and on his way to recovery, former Featherweight Champion Johnny Tapia was released from the hospital last week after he was admitted in critical condition after he collapsed unconscious at his home hours after a police stand off at another residence.

According to USA Today, he spent a weekend on life support before being released on January 13, 2003 with no apparent  life threatening injuries.

Tapia was given a summons to appear in court for possession of drug paraphernalia which was a result from the police stand off.  Tapia was admitted to a hospital years ago for a drug overdose.

At 35 years of age, Tapia's boxing career may be on the decline but he has been medically cleared to fight in the future if he desires. We'll just have to wait and see how his recovery goes.
