Pancrase Tournament

March 14, 2004

With all the events to choose from this weekend, and with only a one week notice, Larry Landless pulled

together a small group of fighters for his beginners Pancrase event on Sunday. KOTC veteran Joe

Camacho and fellow referee Doc Hamilton were in attendance. The unfortunate thing though, was that

most of the fighters didn't match up in weight or experience. One of the bouts that did was Don Rocco vs.

Carlos Fuentes

The fight was scheduled for one - five minute round, one - three minute round and if needed, one - three

minute sudden death round. These two warriors treated us to a good ground match. Throughout the first two

rounds, Fuentes was inside Rocco's guard with Rocco attempting submissions but Fuentes pulling out of

them. The bout went into the sudden death round. Whoever would score the first catch point would win. This

means that you didn't necessarily have to make your opponent submit as long as you caught him in a

submittable position for three seconds or in a point position for three seconds.

Much like the first two rounds, the sudden death round was no different. At one point during the round,

it looked like Fuentes was in a position to pull an arm bar but Rocco was calm and maneuvered his way out

of it and never gave the referee a chance to count the three seconds. As the round was nearing the end,

Rocco was able to pull away and get the side mount and was able to hold position for the three seconds

required for the points. Don Rocco won the match on points. It was a great display by both fighters.

We'd like to thank Larry Landless and all the guys that were there for being such good sports and treating us

well.

If you missed this event and would like to try it out, Larry will be having another one on Sunday, April 4th.

Fighters need to show up at 3pm. The event starts at 5pm.  You must contact Larry Landless so he can put

you down on the roster. For information and directions, click here: April 4th event
