SHOBOX on Showtime Jennings vs. James
April 1, 2004 York Hall, Bethnal Green London, England 11 PM ET/PT
Showtime presents another edition of "Shobox: The Next Generation" live from England (on the East Coast) on April 1st. The main event for this card will feature the undefeated World Boxing Union (WBU) International welterweight champion Michael Jennings (21-0, 8 KO's) go up against the British Southern Area welterweight title holder Brett James (14-1-2, 1 KO). In the co-feature, undefeated bantamweight Martin "Too Much" Power (12-0, 5 KO's) will face former English bantamweight champion Jamie Yelland (8-4-1, 2 KO's).
Jennings is coming into this fight with a six round decision win over Peter Dunn (9-27-3) in December of last year (2003). In his previous bout (Sept., 2003), Jennings captured the WBU International welterweight title with a fourth round TKO win over Sammy Smith (11-6, 3 KO's). Jennings has never been past six rounds.
James is on a four fight win streak since losing his first fight to David Walker (20-2-1, 10 KO's) via fourth round TKO in October of 2002. One fight after his first loss, James captured the vacant British Southern Area welterweight title (in August of 2003) with a 10 round unanimous decision win over Sammy Smith - the same Smith who Michael Jennings took out in four. James will be coming into this bout with a four round decision win over Richard Inquieti (8-39-2, 5 KO's) in February of this year).
Power is coming into this fight with a second round TKO win over Delroy Spencer (9-20-1) in January of this year. Power has never been past six rounds and although he has 12 wins, only nine are against unique opponents (he beat Stevie Quinn three times - all by TKO and Darren Cleary twice - both by decision).
Yelland is coming into this bout on a three fight losing streak. His last bout was in January of this year when he lost a six round decision to Danny Wallace (5-2-1, 2 KO's). Yelland has gone 10 or more rounds twice - when he captured the newly created British bantamweight title with a 10 round unanimous decision win over Gareth Payne (11-8, 6 KO's) in October of 2002 and when he lost the British Bantamweight title six months later in April of 2003 to Nicky Booth (17-5-1, 7 KO's) via a 12 round decision.
