The AP is reporting that WBA Heavyweight Champion Roy Jones Jr. (48-1, 38 KO's) will be holding a press conference on Saturday to announce that he will be fighting IBF/WBC Light Heavyweight Champ Antonio Carver (21-1, 17 KO's) on November 8, 2003.

Jones held the IBF and WBC light heavyweight titles before vacating them to move up to heavyweight.

According to the WBA,  Jones had until September 1, 2003 to confirm any negotiations regarding his defense of his title against an official contender or risk being stripped.

The WBA will be holding a purse bid on September 15th for # 2 ranked heavyweight David Tua (42-3-1, 37 KO's) and # 3 ranked Hasim Rahman (35-4-1, 29 KO's) for what is being labeled as the WBA interim heavyweight title. The # 1 ranking is vacant.

Does this mean that Jones will be stripped of his heavyweight title?

One can only guess but it looks like Jones didn't get the kind of money he was looking for to fight the big boys so he's moving back down to light heavyweight for now.
