K-1 Update: Carter Protests

K-1 USA's Michael Afromowitz is reporting that Carter Williams has filed a protest with K-1 Japan over

his controversial decision loss to Ray Sefo at the K-1 World GP 2003 Final Elimination back on October

11th.

Carter was penalized a point in the second round for what he deems is an inadvertent elbow.

Sefo was dealing with a swollen eye from punishment during the second round of their bout and after being

hit with the elbow and given a rest period, he deemed he could not continue and it went to the scorecards.

Sefo won the decision 20-19, 20-19, 19-19.

The protest is based on the fact that the referee gave Carter both a yellow card and a red card at the same

time for the same infraction.

But as Afromowitz points out:

"K-1 rules, however, stipulate that a red card may only be issued for an offense after two yellow cards have

been dealt out for two separate, prior infractions of the rules."

No response has been given by K-1 to the protest.

Carter hopes to be invited to the year ending event in Japan on December 6th as a participant, if one of the

scheduled fighters drops out, or as a reserve fighter.
