"JC Plentee of Skillz"
Joe Camacho Interview
We were fortunate enough to get an interview with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt Joe Camacho this past Wednesday before his big day at King of the Cage (today) and he graciously invited us into his home to chat for a while. While this was originally a video interview, because of audio difficulties, we decided to transcribe the interview instead.
AN: I'm Al Nava for thefightgame.tv, I’m here today with Joe Camacho who will be fighting for the lightweight title this upcoming King of The Cage, February 20th. Joe, it’s good to see you. Who are you going to fight?
JC: I’ll be fighting Joe Stevenson for the king of the cage lightweight title - this is for all the marbles. For the world championship.
AN: I know you’ve been waiting a long time for this fight – you faced him once before, it was your debut that one time, you’ve learned a lot since then and we know he defeated you by triangle choke, what’s going to be your strategy this time? Are you going to try to bang with him? We know he can bang and we know you’ve been training for that.
JC: I’m going to mix it up, if he wants to box, I’ll box, if he wants to take it to the ground, I’m game...you know, that’s my bread and butter, on the ground, Brazilain Jiu-Jitsu. If he wants to trade submissions, we’ll trade submissions, you know. I mean, it’s going to be a war. It’s going to be a good match. I’m looking forward to it.
Camacho vs. John DeLaO at KOTC 22
AN: Well, we know that he beat you once before with a triangle, are you going to try to take him to the ground yourself instead of him bringing you to the ground and maybe try to submit him - to give him back what he gave you?
JC: Well, my goal is to push him. I want him to fight my game. Joe Stevenson is a tough, tough fighter. No one has ever really pushed him besides Romie Aram. And I’m going to play kind of Romie Aram’s game – just push him... pressure. And I’m just going to bang and out box him and out grapple him, you know. But I’m going to get Ghetto and get aggressive (chuckling)
AN: (chuckling) Get Ghetto
JC: Yeah (chuckling)
AN: You can see Joe Camacho on February 20th at King of he Cage – Any information you want to say about your upcoming fight?
JC: Just come and check it out - watch it live on the 20th or catch me on pay-per-view on the 29th. Its going to be a delayed broadcast, it’s going to air the 29th. Come support me, come support my sponsors. I have Von Dutch (Von Dutch Originals), and Jer's Board Shop (JBS), Turtles boxing gym in East Los Angeles, and check out DJ kcbeat.com, and I can’t forget sickboyfilms, they’re the guys that will be filming my documentary. They’re going to be following me around with cameras and stuff, so go to sickboyfilms.com and check out their website – it’s pretty cool, it’s pretty neat. And can’t forget thefightgame.tv – they were there from the beginning, and they got my back, and like I said, I have theirs too.
AN: Hopefully, when we se you next time, you’ll be victorious but what’s next for you – we hear you are going to Japan. Is that going to come through or how’s that going?
JC: Win or Lose, I am going to Japan. I’ll be fighting in ZST – the Japan show called Zest - www.zst.info, go to their website. I’ll be fighting in their lightweight tournament. It's going to be in May and I’m just going out there to represent. Go out and signify for the Untied States and Mexico. I’m Mexican/American so, you know, you got to represent for the Chicanos out there. If I beat…When I beat, Joe Stevenson, not if, when I beat Joe Stevenson, a lot of doors will be opening for me. I’ll have a shot at the UFC and I already have talks…I’m already talking to the DSE corporation, DreamStage - talking about the Bushido, that’s a little bit down the line. But first things first, get this fight out of the way, win, and then move on to the next, that’s it. I’m just focused on this fight really right now. And also, when my Visa comes in, my U.S. passport, then that’s when I’ll be ready to go to Japan.
AN: Well Joe, It's a Pleasure once again and if you want to learn more about Joe, he has a website at: http://www.jcplentee.com/menu.htm. Check him out. Thanks Joe.
JC: Your Welcome, Thank You.
TheFightGame.tv would like to thank Mr. Camacho for hospitality and time. We wish both Joes' the best in their fight.
