Evander Says Not Yet

After his trainer stopped the bout in the ninth round with James Toney this past October 4th, Evander

Holyfield said he was going to go home and evaluate his performance. From there, he would decide whether

to hang up the gloves at the age of 40 or continue.

Most at ring side and those watching at home felt like Holyfield showed his age. He was a step slower than

he had been in the past and he was eating a lot of right hands that he normally would be able to slip and

slide.

But don't tell Holyfield that.

Holyfield has reviewed his bout with Toney and has decided to continue fighting.

It's no secret that we at thefightgame.tv would like to see him retire.

It's not that we don't believe that Holyfield has the skills to comeback and kick some ass, it's just that he

has nothing left to prove and we don't want to see him get hurt because we simply don't see the desire in his

eyes that he has had in the past against the likes of Mike Tyson or Riddick Bowe.

Holyfield's trainer warned him during the Toney fight betweens rounds eight and nine that if he didn't stop

getting hit by the right hand of Toney, he would stop the fight. And when Holyfield hit the canvas, he did

exactly that. There was just no flame in his eyes.

Holyfield has written a letter to all his fans explaining his decision to continue fighting on his website:

While we think he would be make an awesome trainer at this point in his life, all that's left to say is that we

wish him the best in his future.
