HBO Boxing - After Dark will present two championship title bouts on January 31st. The main event will

feature the WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito going up against the WBO # 9 ranked

contender Hercules Kyvelos

 

Margarito has won 20 fights since his last defeat in June of 1996 barring a no-contest due to a cut in July of

2001. Margarito won the vacant WBO title in March of 2002 with a 10th round TKO win over Antonio Diaz.

Margarito has defeated such notables as David Kamau (2nd rd. TKO in 2000), former WBA Jr.

Welterweight champion Frankie Randall (4th rd. TKO in 2000) and former WBA welterweight champion

Andrew Lewis (2nd rd. TKO in 2003).

 

The undefeated Kyvelos won the Canadian welterweight championship with a 12 round unanimous decision

win over Fitz Vanderpool in 2000. His last bout was in June of 2003 win he defeated former WBO Jr.

welterweight champion Ener Julio by 10 round unanimous decision.

 

The second title bout will feature the IBF bantamweight champion Rafael Marquez facing the IBF # 1

ranked contender Peter Frissina.

 

Marquez won the IBF title in February of last year when he defeated then champion Tim Austin by eighth

round TKO. Marquez has defended the title once since then - winning a 12 round unanimous decision over

former Jr. flyweight/super flyweight champion Mauricio Pastrana.

 

Frissina won 15 bouts in a row since losing his last bout in 1998 before he fought to a draw with Francisco

Tejedor in 2001. He has since had three fights - winning all by decision including his last bout against

Jesus Perez in July of 2003.
