WBC\WBA\IBF Welterweight Title Bout (12 Rds)

Cory Spinks (33-2, 10 KO's) wins by unanimous decision (116-111, 114-112, 114-112) over Zab Judah

(30-2, 22 KO's) - Spinks retains titles - Crowd booed the decision

 

RD 1 - Spinks starts out jabbing - Looking to measure Judah - Spinks continues to work the jab - Judah

throws a right that misses - Judah starts to work the jab - Judah looks relaxed - both circling the ring -

Spinks lands a jab to the face, punch to the body - Judah responds with his own jab which is countered by

Spinks - Judah lands a hard left to the body - Spinks continues to use his jab - Judah counters - Round ends

 

RD 2 - Judah starts by landing a jab to the face and then the body - Judah looking to land more punches

than in the first round - Both land right hooks on each other - no damage - Spinks lands a straight left -

Spinks lands a hard right to Judah's face - looks like Judah's nose is bleeding - Spinks on target with his jab

- Judah comes back and lands a straight right - headbutt - Judah seems to have gotten the worse - no cut

but his right eye looks to be getting swollen - bell rings

 

RD 3 - Both come out and start jabbing - Judah eyes are okay - Judah misses with a combo but Spinks

connects with a counter to the face of Judah - Spinks lands a hard right hook on Judah's face - Spinks now

throwing harder jabs - Spinks works the body then comes up to the face - Judah trying to counter but Spinks

just keeps moving - Spinks is finding all the angles - Judah tries to start his jab, lands a couple - Spinks

lands an overhand right to the face of Judah - Judah counters with a right hook and they clinch - Bell rings

 

RD 4 - Both come out - Spinks starts to jab - going to the body, going to the face - Spinks circles, using the

jab - Spinks scoring - Spinks lands hard overhand left - Judah counters with his own left - Spinks lands his

own left - Judah counters but misses - Judah scores with a hard left - Spinks okay - Spinks lands a right

hook to the face, left hook to the body - Spinks lands a hard straight jab - Judah comes at Spinks throwing

punches as the bell rings - both smile at each other

 

RD 5 - Both come out - Spinks with the same game plan - using the jab  - Judah starts to jab to the body - 

Judah looking for a way in - Judah still jabbing - Spinks just circles and jabs - Judah looks frustrated, can't

get anything in - Judah carrying his right hand low - Spinks throws a right, left combo that misses - Judah

lands left - Spinks lands left to the body as the bell rings.

 

RD 6 - Judah comes out throwing to the body which Spinks counters with two shots to the face of Judah - 

Spinks not as busy as he has been - Judah lands a straight left - Spinks battles back with a shot to the

body - Judah seems to be loading up for one punch - Spinks throwing jabs but not connecting - Spinks

throws a right to the body - Judah lands a left to the face of Judah - Now that Spinks has slowed down,

Judah starts to connect more - bell rings

 

RD 7 - Both fighters like to be okay stamina wise - Spinks starts off using his jab but Judah is able to avoid -

Judah showing more movement - Judah able to land jabs to the face and body of Spinks - Judah lands

another jab - Judah lands a good body shot - Spinks seems to have gone ob vacation - Spinks lands a left,

countered by Judah with his own left - Judah connects with a straight left - Spinks okay - Spinks lands a

right - Judah lands a right - they clinch - Judah then lands three hard body uppercuts as the bell rings - 

 

RD 8 - Spinks comes out and scores with the jab to the face of Judah - Spinks found his target with the jab

again - Judah counters with his own jab - Ref stopped the fight for a bit - Spinks mouthpiece is out - Spinks 

starts with the jab again - Spinks lands a straight jab to the face and tries to land more but Judah shows

movement and escapes - Judah starts to jab - backing up Spinks - Spinks lands a right jab, then a left -

Judah counters - Judah lands a right, left combo that looked to have staggered Spinks - round ends - Judah

starts laughing like "I got you"

 

RD 9 - Both come out jabbing - Judah throws a hard left to the body - Spinks lands his jab - Spinks lands

right jab to the face - Judah lands a hard right to the face of Spinks - Spinks looks okay - Spinks trying to

keep him away with the jab - Judah now able to land with his jab - Judah showing movement - Judah looks

like he found his angles - Judah looks at the crowd and Spinks comes in trying to hit him but misses - Judah

landing some hard jabs - both exchange and Judah lands a hard uppercut and follows up with a hard right as

both were exchanging punches -  bell rings 

 

RD 10 - Judah starts off working the body - Judah landing his jab to the face of Spinks - Spinks left eye looks

to be swelling - Spinks uses his jab to keep Judah at bay - Judah back  to jabbing - Judah lands left to the

body - Spinks lands short uppercut - Spinks lands two lefts to the face of Judah - Judah counters with his

own left - another headbutt - no stoppage - headbutt looks to have bothered Judah more than Spinks - Judah

lands a body shot as they clinch as the bell rings 

 

RD 11 - Spinks eye looks okay - Spinks comes out with a straight jab that lands - both circling - Spinks

jabbing to keep Judah away, not to score - Judah lands a straight right - Judah lands a left, right combo and

goes down - Ref counting it as a knock down - didn't see if Spinks landed anything - Spinks lands hard right

hooks to face of Judah - Judah counters - Judah looks good - Judah lands a hard left - Spinks backing up but

okay - Both land right hooks as bell rings - knockdown was caused by Judah moving back and Spinks

landing a punch - more momentum than power 

 

RD 12 - Judah starts out jabbing - Judah lands overhand left - Spinks tries to land a straight left but misses - 

Judah tries to cut ring off from Spinks - Spinks using his jab - Judah goes to the body - Spinks counters with

his own punches to the body - Judah trying to get in but Spinks keeping him at bay with the jab - Judah

lands hard body shot that sends Spinks down - Judah charges and trying to finish in off  - Spinks is hurt - 

10 seconds left - Judah all over Spinks - bell rings as Spinks holds on - Judah landed a left to the face that

sent Spinks down, it wasn't a body shot - to the score cards

 

NOTES:

- Spinks said he got careless when he got hit and went down

- After his knockdown of Judah, Spinks said he thought he had it won

- Spinks says he still has a lot to learn - that he can only get better

 

 

WBO Heavyweight Title Bout - Vacant (12 Rds)

Lamon Brewster (30-2, 27 KO's) wins by TKO at end of fifth round over Wladimir Klitschko (42-3, 39

KO's)  - Brewster captures vacant WBO title

 

RD 1 - Both come out - Brewster comes in hard - pushing Klitschko back - Klitschko starts to jab - 

Both in a clinch - Klitschko uses a left jab - they clinch - Klitschko pushes Brewster away - ref warns

Klitschko not to push - Klitschko lands a left hook - Klitschko lands a left hook followed by a straight right  -

Brewster against the ropes - Klitschko lands a couple of jabs - Brewster looks to have a landed a low blow

but the ref says nothing - Klitschko landing the jab - bell rings

 

RD 2 - Klitschko goes right to the jab - Brewster looks to be looking for a way in but Klitschko keeps him at

bay with the jab - Klitschko landing left jab at will - Brewster lands a good body shot - Ref warns Klitschko

not to hold when they clinch - Brewster lands a hard left - Klitschko looks okay - Klitschko back to the jab -

Brewster works the body - Klitschko really working the jab - Brewster is just too far away to do anything - 

Klitschko lands two left hooks, then a right and back to the jab as the bell rings

 

RD 3 - Klitschko comes out jabbing - relentless with the jab - if Brewster gets in, Klitschko clinches - 

Brewster lands a straight left that hurts Klitschko - Klitschko holding - both circling - Klitschko looks to be

okay now - Klitschko back to jabbing - Brewster lands a straight right to the body - ref tell both to fight - 

Klitschko lands a right to the face of Brewster - Brewster tries to come in - Klitschko hugs - bell rings

 

RD 4 - (ref tells Klitschko if his hands are free, punch and get out during the break) - Klitschko using the jab -

As soon as Brewster gets close, Klitschko clinches - Klitschko just jabbing - Klitschko lands a good right

hand the head of Brewster - ref tells Klitschko not to push - Brewster lands good shot to the body - Klitschko

lands a left hook and pulls Brewster to the canvas - no knockdown - Klitschko throws a straight right that

sends Brewster down - Brewster gets eight count - Brewster holding on - Klitschko punching, trying to end it

but Brewtser throwing back- both wrestle to the ground as the bell rings 

 

RD 5 - the bell rings and th eref stops action for a second to clear something off the mat - Klitschko throws a

jab then a right trying to finish Brewster - Brewster looks tired - Klitschko lands three unanswered punches

- Brewster finally punches back - Brewster looks tired - Klitschko looks to be tiring too - Klitschko lands a

straight left, Brewster counters with two lefts and Klitschko gets a standing eight count - Brewster trying to

end it - Klitschko trying to hang on - bell rings - Klitschko goes down on his own - ref goes over to check

Klitschko - Ref stops the fight after Klitschko stood up 

 

NOTES:

- Brewster said he knew Klitschko would get tired from punching too much

- Brewster said he heard Klitschko breathing hard in the second round

- Brewster said he has the heart when asked if he had the chin to win the championship

- It looks like to us that the fight was stopped because Klitschko was hurt and dead tired - Good stoppage

 

In short, Klitschko was in command early but gassed out and couldn't take what he dished out - Klitschko

needs to work Big Time on his stamina - Brewster needs to work on a defense if he plans on keeping the

title.
