Taylor vs. Bunema

March 27, 2004

Altell Arena - 10pm ET/PT
Little Rock, Arkansas

HBO Boxing After Dark will present two undefeated fighters on their March 27th card. Undefeated

middleweight contender Jermain Taylor (19-0, 14 KO's) will go up against Alex Bunema (24-3-2, 12

KO's), and undefeated heavyweight contender Dominick Guinn (24-0, 17 KO's) will be going up against

tough veteran Monte Barrett (29-3, 16 KO's).

Taylor, ranked # 3 in the world by the WBC,  is coming off a first round TKO win over Alex Rios (23-5-1, 18

KO's) earlier this January. Only five of Taylor's 19 fights have gone the distance and he has TKO'd seven of

his last eight opponents.

Bunema, ranked # 5 in the world as a Jr. middleweight by the WBC and the current WBC Continental

Americas Jr. middleweight champion, will step up in weight to take on Taylor. Bunema is on a four fight win

streak since March of 2003, winning all by unanimous decision including his last fight against Anthony

Shuler (14-2-1, 11 KO's) for the WBC Continental Americas Jr. middleweight title in November of 2003.

Bunema has been stopped in two of his three losses inside of four rounds so if Taylor can put some powers

shots together early,  he just might make it a short night for himself.

Dominick Guinn comes in as the WBC's # 13 ranked heavyweight. His last bout was in November of 2003

against Derrick Banks (20-11-1, 7 KO's) in which Guinn won a 10 round unanimous decision. Guinn also

has a seventh round TKO win over Michael Grant (39-3, 30 KO's), in which Grant hit the canvas four times,

in June of 2003.

Barrett is coming off a hard fought loss (majority decision) to WBC # 4 ranked Joe Mesi (28-0, 25 KO's)

this past December (2003). Before that loss, Barrett was on a six fight win streak since losing to (current

WBA # 4 ranked) Wladimir Klitschko (42-2, 39 KO's) back in July of 2000.

Barrett has only been stopped once in his career (by Klitschko via seventh round TKO) so this fight has the

potential to go the distance with both fighters doing some damage along the way. Barrett hit the canvas in

the fifth round in his last fight with Mesi but recuperated and put Mesi down in the seventh. Barrett could be

looking at another heartbreak loss if he doesn't finish the fight if he has the chance to.
