April 11, 2004 Portsmouth, Hampshire England
No fancy name, no frills, no bling and no bull. Just full contact fight action. Easter Sunday, April 11th, 2004 and brought with it a mix of Amateur, semi-pro and Pro fight action. Held in Portsmouth on England’s south coast, this event promised nothing but fight action and it was delivered in style, with an intense atmosphere that was magnified by a brutal, bloody all-Brazilian superfight as its main event.
The feature attraction had all the elements of a classic grudge match as both men had a point to prove and their own personal honor to uphold. This feud started when Roberto Atalla (A BJJ black belt under Sergio “Bolao” Souza) came to the UK and argued that BJJ is best learnt from a black belt. This infuriated Alex De Souza, (who is part of Saulo Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu association and is currently a brown belt) who runs his own school in the South coast of England and stated that comments like this could hurt his reputation and his school. After months of arguments and challenges they decided to settle the score in true Brazilian style with a Vale Tudo contest over
three, ten minute! rounds. infamous Easter Sunday which had the entire UK MMA community buzzing for weeks. Alongside the main event were 9 other fights, which included a BNMA woman’s kickboxing title fight, 2 Men’s Kickboxing bouts featuring the up and coming MMA star Paul “Semtex” Daley, as well as a mix of Professional, semi-pro and
amateur MMA bouts.
