De La Hoya Robbed

HBO Boxing

What fight were these judges watching?

115-113 on all scorecards?

I've seen some terrible calls in boxing but this is just unbelievable.

Mosley did not do anything to deserve this win. Sure he stunned De La Hoya with a couple of shots in a

couple of rounds but he never followed-up and De La Hoya recovered and did some nice countering to

overcome Mosley's one punch stampedes.

De La Hoya boxed beautifully and scored with punches upstairs as well as to the body. De La Hoya came

with combinations while Mosley threw one punch combos.

So, was it the blood from the cut of De La Hoya that affected the judges decision? I hope not since it came

from an accidental head butt in the fourth round.

Was it that fact the Mosley was throwing harder punches? Well, if you only land a few each round while

your opponent is countering and landing a lot more, some of which are solid punches, then what good is the

power punch if they're not landing. And even when they did land and had De La Hoya stunned, he rebounded

and came back with some pretty good counters and stopped Mosley in his tracks.

Was it that Mosley was the stalker while De La Hoya circled? Hey, De La Hoya landed some good body

blows and hooks to the head from circling. Mosley just chased but didn't let his hands go.

Hell, even at the end, Mosley's father sounded like he knew Shane was losing. Check that, it sounded like

he knew he had lost.

We had Mosley winning only one round and the argument could be made for three. Heck, we'll even throw in

a round that we just gave the nod to De La Hoya. That's still seven rounds for De La Hoya / five for Mosley or

115-113 for De La Hoya.

Three of the HBO commentators had De La Hoya winning while they polled writers at ringside and 4 out of

five had Mosley ahead.

Go figure.

De La Hoya's father was quoted as saying that they will protest the decision. Don't know how or what, but

they'll protest.

Mosley looked like he knew he was given a gift. He has to good a character to gloat about this win.

Yet another black eye for boxing.
