Cesar Gracie will be holding his 4th Annual Gracie Open on September 21st beginning at 10am. There will be Gi and No-Gi divisions. Event T-shirts will be included with paid registration for competitors. Medals will be awarded to first and second place finishers in each weight division plus trophies will also be awarded to the most technical Jiu-Jitsu fighter for each division.
Competition Fee: Men - $50 for one event or $75 for both Women and children under 16 - $25 for one event or $40 for both (Woman and children under 16 will be matched by approximate weight & experience) Spectators - $5
Weigh-ins: will be held Saturday, September 20, 2003 at Cesar Gracie's Academy (150 Longbrook Way # E, Pleasant Hill ,CA. 94523) from 8am-8pm. Weigh-ins will also be held the day of the tournament.
Weight Divisions: 110-121 lbs. 122-134 lbs. 135-147 lbs. 148-160 lbs. 161-173 lbs. 174-187 lbs. 188-202 lbs. 203-213 lbs. 214-225 lbs. 226+
lbs. Gi Requirements - Clean Gi - Sleeves are to be no shorter than 4" from wrist - Four finger cuff clearance - Signed waiver - Entrance fee to be paid BEFORE competition begins
No-Gi
Requirements - Shorts - Wrestling shoes/head gear optional - Signed waiver - Entrance fee to be paid BEFORE competition begins
Competition
Rules/Conduct - Competitors in Gi division will compete with regulation Gi's only. - Regulation is four fingers between wrist and sleeve of Gi. - No tears in Gi which will continue to tear. - Competitors will observe and follow all of the referees instructions. - Competitors will bow or shake hands after their match.
Illegal holds/actions - Heel hooks (Gi division) - Heel hooks will be allowed in No-Gi, advanced division only - small joint manipulation - Punching - Kicking - When in opponents guard: Picking him up and slamming to ground
- Violation of the above mentioned rules. - Un-sportsman like activity - i.e. Use of profanity, profane gestures, argumentative or belligerent behavior directed towards the referee, spectators, opponents or tournament organizers. - Striking techniques. - Application of illegal holds as mentioned above. - Purposefully trying to evade contact or leave the contest area during a match. - Stalling after a verbal warning. - Lifting and throwing an opponent while passing guard. - Failure to release submission hold after opponent taps out.
