1st Pan American Games of No-Gi Submission Grappling

Saturday August 23, 2003

Fountain Valley, CA

It was a sunny summer day in California but it would have been hot Saturday even if it was winter. The 1st

Pan American Games of No-Gi Submission Grappling Tournament was held Saturday and the gym was

blazing with talent. From the youngest of kids to the most seasoned of grapplers, it was a pleasure to see

such skill, humility, and courtesy amongst the competitors. By all accounts, this was a Great event.

And among the notables at the event were Abu Dabhi Absolute Champion Dean Lister, Leka Vieira,

Jean-Jacques Machado, Rick Lucero and Charlie Kohler just to name a few.

As a matter of fact, beside being coaches today, Jean-Jacques, Leka, and Rick also pulled double duties

as refs.

If you've never been to a submission grappling event, then your missing out on some Great talent. And in

case you've never been to an event, we have a semi-finals bout between former King of the Cage Lightweight

Champion Javier "Showtime" Vasquez and Gladiator Challenge veteran Bao Quach - we hope this might

convince you to go to the next grappling event in your area. And if your in California, check out the next Pan

American Games of No-Gi Submission Grappling (video no longer in data base).

The result of the bout is below as the camera cut out just before they raised the winners hand.

Result - We were not able to locate the event sheet to see what division Vasquez was in but he did win the

semi-finals bout over Quach on points and took home the Gold medal in his division over a game opponent

on points...Bao Quach took home the Bronze.

Here is the list of results for the day. If we got anyone's name wrong or omitted someone's name, please

drop us a line and we'll take care of it ASAP.
